HARRY and FRANCES "JOAN" HODGSON Obituary
Harry Hodgson, 90, passed away peacefully in Sunnybrook Hospital on January 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
On January 6, 2026, his beloved wife, Frances "Joan" (nee Fryer), 91, followed suit.
Both were victims of the flu.
They are survived by their two daughters, Heather (David) of the Bahamas and Patricia of Toronto; and Harry's younger brother, Fred (Linda) of Cheticamp. Harry was predeceased by his elder brother, Joshua (Marjorie). Joan was predeceased by her younger brother, Edward (Mary). Much loved Uncle and Aunt to Mark (Charlotte), Joshua (Tsung-Wei), Duncan (Lisa), Freddie (Diane), Patrick, Andrew (Renata). Great-Uncle and Aunt to Jack, Laz, Kim, Sarah, Ian, Ashley, Megan, and Henrietta.
Harry was a proud Member of the 48th Highlanders of Canada Pipes and Drums, Cpl Harry Hodgson passionately piped, like his father before him, from the age of twelve right into his eighties. Harry was a 40-year employee of the Toronto Hydro Electric System.
Harry loved Laurel and Hardy, George Formby. Baseball and European Football. His sense of humour, kind demeanor, winning smile and constant singing will be missed.
Joan was a proud Member of St. Clement's Church, where she taught Sunday School, volunteered in the Church Office and was actively involved with her beloved Windsor Group. She found joy in organizing Rummage sales, Christmas Fairs, and serving the greater good in the company of her friends. Joan was a Member of the IODE, 48th Chapter. She worked as the Chief Secretary for the Head of Simpsons Sears until 1968.
Joan loved making her own clothes, water skiing, and curling. Her distinctive, infectious laugh, her Irish superstitions, her hawk-eye and fierce loyalty will be missed.
Harry was a gentleman. Joan was a Lady. Both were good people.
Visitation will be held at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Ave. W. (two stoplights west of Yonge St.), on Friday, January 9th, from 6-9 p.m. and on Saturday, January 10th, from 9:30-11:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Service in the Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Saint John's Norway Cemetery.
In memoriam, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Toronto Humane Society would be appreciated.
