'SCHOOL INSPECTOR' HARRY CLEVELAND (CLEVE) HUNTER (1914-2010) Cleve died peacefully on Thursday May 27, 2010 at Kingston General Hospital, lovingly attended by his wife Dr. Patricia J. Hames. Cleve, longtime 'school inspector' and school superintendent in the Kingston area, contributed extensively to the community in many areas including education, land use planning, industry, and the Parr Christie Singers. Cleve was born in Burk's Falls, ON, received his Bachelor's Degree at Queen's University and his Bachelor of Pedagogy at University of Toronto. Cleve embarked on a long career in education and ser vice to the community. He first taught in rural schools and astutely enrolled in an agricultural equipment maintenance course at Guelph in order to add value to his agrarian community. Cleve retired from the local school board after a long career in teaching and leadership. Cleve celebrated his 90th birthday in grand style with a huge party, entertaining area luminaries with his piano playing and laughing as local political, educational, and community representatives toasted and roasted him. Cleve is survived by his wife Patricia Hames, his sister Millicent Tuck, and his nieces Andrea Tuck-Jackson and Sandra Langley. He was predeceased by his first wife Eleanor, infant daughter Diane, and brothers Orland and Allan, and sister Grace. In Cleve's last few months, many friends provided wonderful care so that Cleve could remain in the home he built in 1951. Visitation will be held at the James Reid Funeral Home (1900 John Counter Boulevard) on Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010 from 1:00pm until the time of service at 2:00pm. Reception to follow the service in the James Reid Reception Centre. Memorial donations in Cleve's memory may be directed to The Frontenac County Schools Museum.
