Harry KNIGHT Obituary

HAROLD GORDON KNIGHT 'Harry' Harry passed away peacefully on January 21, 2023 at the age of 87. He is the beloved and devoted husband of Roberta (predeceased in 2007); loving father of Rob (Lisa) and David (Irene); and cherished grandfather of Chloe, Ryan and Eric. A wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, uncle, grandpa and friend. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Leslie (Yvonne) Knight, Helen Steele, Dorothy Knight (Peter Fischer), Murray (Silvia) Knight and Dona Knight. Predeceased by siblings, Wilma, Berva, Willis, Ken, Jim, Jack and Marilyn; and in-laws, Aileen Knight, Donna Knight, Jack Steele, Anne Baillie and Frank and Terry Johnston. Harry, his twin brother Leslie, and his 11 brothers and sisters grew up on the family farm near Brussels, Ontario. After completing an Electrical Engineering degree at University of Toronto in 1957 followed by a Masters of Electrical Engineering at Caltech in Pasadena, California, Harry spent his career at IBM as an IT professional working in New York, Ottawa and retiring in Toronto. Harry's passions included golf, skiing, curling, bridge and travelling. He loved heading up to the cottage he built on Moose Lake near Haliburton to enjoy time with family and friends. Harry was extremely proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them whether it was board games, cribbage, swimming or boating at the cottage or watching his grandsons play GTHL hockey in the city. Harry was blessed with many lifelong friends with whom he shared wonderful experiences. He will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. His humour, kindness and generosity will always be remembered. The family will receive friends at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Avenue West (2 stoplights west of Yonge St.) on Monday, January 30 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Memorial Service will be held at Eglinton St. George's United Church, 35 Lytton Boulevard, Toronto, on Tuesday, January 31 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow. We would like to thank the nurses and doctors of the CV ICU at Sunnybrook Hospital for their compassion and support. In lieu of flowers, friends who so wish may make memorial donations to Diabetes Canada, diabetes.ca. Live stream will be available through the church's website: esgunited.org.

I started at IBM in 1979 and the first manager I worked for was Harry. He was an absolute joy of a person and so well liked by everyone. RIP Harry.

Harry interviewed me right after I graduated from U of T in 1960 for a job with IBM as an Applied Science Rep. I still remember the interview and how impressed I was that Harry worked for IBM a company much in the news at that time

What a shame. Harry and I have been friends since high school.
