Harry NOBBS Obituary

HARRY DONALD NOBBS With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Harry Donald Nobbs, 100, on September 20, 2022, predeceased on September 5, 2022 by his most cherished wife, Doreen. Don leaves behind daughters, Dr. Catherine (Dr. Colin) Pryor and Elizabeth 'Buffy' (James) Knowlton. Don was the cherished OB to grandchildren, Jamieson and Sari Pryor and Mathew and Taylor Knowlton. Born in Tillsonburg, March 30, 1922, Don attained his B.A. at Western and B.Ed. at U. of T. A scholar at heart, Don studied at the Sorbonne, Paris, and became tri-lingual. He relished many fulfilling years at Northern Secondary School as Teacher Head of Moderns (Languages), and VP; at Humberside Collegiate as Principal; and was proud to establish Ontario's first French Language Lab. Don valued education highly and cared equally about his students and colleagues. Don avidly supported charities for the arts, education, and people in need. He deeply loved classical music, playing piano and pipe organ. A longstanding Timothy Eaton Memorial Church member, he joined the choir after retirement, continued organ study, and volunteered on numerous committees. He also served on St Matthew's House board, volunteered with CARD's horseback riding program, and helped establish a Toronto private school. He and Doreen further enjoyed traveling with lifelong family friends. Our father always retained his love of learning. He valued every second of life, and we're grateful he's achieved the peace that his strength and integrity afforded him. We recall fondly his humor, interest in family, and love of word puzzles, well-written passages, and familiar expressions like "Come again soon!" A celebration of life is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Hospital for Sick Children, Humberside Collegiate, or TEMC.

So sorry to read about (mr) Nobbs´ passing at such a wonderfully long life. I remember him well as he taught me French in grade 9 and/or 10 at Northern Sec. he was a gentle man who was always kind and concerned with our progress. He never raised his voice. Some teachers fade, but he has remained in my mind. I eventually became an English teacher at NSS too. I´m sure he had something to do with it. All teachers leave footprints. Your father certainly did. Condolences too on the passing of your mother. There are no coincidences in life. RIP. NORA WALLNER.
