HARVEY MELVILLE KERBEL

HARVEY KERBEL Obituary

Peacefully, on Sunday, August 17, 2025. It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Harvey Melville Kerbel QC. Devoted husband of Carole Kerbel. Cherished father of Tammy Kerbel, Robin Kerbel and Eric Abugov, Jeffrey Kerbel and Carrie Smith. Proud grandfather of Corey and Dalia Shankman, Cole Slatt and Maddy Slatt, Jamie Kerbel and Eric Kerbel. Adored great-grandfather of Stella and Simone Shankman. Brother-in-law of Michael and Elaine Lipton. Loving son of the late Anne and Izzy Kerbel z"l; and dear brother and brother-in-law of the late Joyce and Izzy Shopsowitz z"l. Son-in-law of the late Arthur and Evalyn Lipton z"l. Adored and loved by his nieces and nephews. Harvey was the heart of the Kerbel family - a loving husband, an extraordinary father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and a true gentleman. He was a respected lawyer at Torkin Manes, a Commodore of the Island Yacht club with a passion for sailing, and a natural leader, whose presence commanded warmth and respect. Harvey loved to travel, discover the best restaurants, and had a refined palate. He was happiest in Key Biscayne, Florida - by the pool, walking to the lighthouse, or greeting friends who came by to say hello. Everyone knew his name. With endless charm, Harvey made everyone he spoke to feel like the most important person in the room. He was known for holding the door for all, telling the best stories, and living with class and kindness. His love for Carole was fierce and unwavering, a bond admired by all who had the privilege to witness it during their 66 years of marriage. He will be remembered for his big heart, his humour, his countless friendships, and the way his face lit up around the people he loved. Harvey will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew him. Special thank you to Mila Dimaano for supporting Harvey.
