Peacefully at Park Lane Terrace, Paris on November 4, 2024 in her 99th year. Helen Kun (nee Jakubcsik), beloved wife of the late Steven Kun (2023). Loving mother of Helen (Joseph), Richard (Paula), Catharine (Andrew), and the late Stephen Kun (2016) and mother-in-law to Margaret. Dear sister of the late Betty Vanchik (2019) and the late Bill Jakubcsik (2016). Cherished Grandma of Rebecca, Jonathan, Jocelyn, Alex, Melissa, Caroline, Jason, Gabrielle, David, Reid and the late Andrew (2019), and four great-grandchildren. Helen came to Canada from Hungary when she was eight years old. She finished school in Grade 8 and went to work in a canning factory, and then on a press at a cleaners. She met the love of her life, Steven Kun and married in 1947. They were married for 76 years. Soon after they were married, they started a business which was attached to their house. Helen would stop everything to receive customers. She was a partner in the business, a very hard worker and yearned for knowledge. Helen took courses in cooking, sewing, upholstery, computers, and was very good at knitting and crocheting. She loved to cook or can, especially with her sister and mother and later with her children and grandchildren: nokedli, tortes, kiflis donuts and exemplar pies, peaches, pears, plums, beets, tomatoes, pickles and healing chicken soup. She was active in the community through the Hungarian Mutual Benefit Society and Hungarian Hall, the Catholic Women's League and the children's schools. Helen wintered for 37 years with Steven in Fort Myers, Florida and spent summers at the Turkey Point Cottage. Helen would often say that it was important to go to school and have a good education. She greatly valued post-secondary education for her children and grandchildren and was proud of their achievements. A very special thank you to Park Lane Terrace for their incredible care and love for almost 3 years. There are too many staff to name but hugs to you all. Also, a special thank you to those who cared for Helen in her home prior to Park Lane Terrace. Gladys and many more. Kelli and Georgia (in both places).
