LANGFORD, Helen Elizabeth (née Uren)
Thanks be to God for her long and happy life and for her peaceful death on Friday, February 7, 2003 in her 99th year at Belmont House, Toronto.
Cherished wife of the late Henry Eden Langford. Predeceased by her parents Reverend Herbert and Elizabeth Craw Uren, her brother Herbert Uren, and her sisters Margaret Johnson and Evelyn Goddard. She is survived by her sister, Lillian Madill (London). Loving mother and mother-in-law of Alex and Marion Langford, Elizabeth Julian and Larry Lundy. Granny of Mary Rolland and Michael, Sarah Kyle and David, Anne Dotsikas and Peter, John Langford and Eva, Jane Langford, Jack Julian and Megan Jones, (Halifax), and Maggie Julian. Great Granny of Megan, Alexandra and John Rolland, Caileigh and Rhiannon Kyle, Kate and Emily Dotsikas, and Benjamin and Ana Langford.
She was born July 5, 1904, raised as the second daughter in a Western Ontario Methodist minister's household, moving every few years to the parsonage of a new congregation – in Tilbury where she was born, Harrow, Highgate, Parkhill, Kincardine, Mitchell, London where upon Church Union her father became a United Church minister, and Brantford. She went to Victoria College in the University of Toronto, graduating in 1925, then to the Ontario College of Education and then to Glencoe for four years of teaching high school. She married Henry Langford in 1930 having almost sixty years of happy marriage. In 1989 she moved into Belmont House. The family is grateful to the Belmont volunteers who visited and read to her regularly – Jane Moore, Nancy Byers, and Barbara Torrance, and her caregivers Odie Marcil and Kendra Russell.
A memorial service and reception will be held on Saturday, February 15th at 11 a.m. at Timothy Eaton Memorial Church, 230 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto.
