Helen PARTRIDGE Obituary

HELEN ROSEMARY 'TIBS' PARTRIDGE APRIL 10, 1920 NOVEMBER 3, 2008 Peacefully, in Toronto, at age 88 after a brief illness. Much loved daughter of Captain John Annesley (Royal Navy) and Dorothy Leckie. Loving wife - and best friend - of 63 years to late artist David Partridge, whose wonderful work she always thoughtfully encouraged. Beloved mother of Kate (Burkhard Spangenberg) and John (Brenda Dalglish). Aunt Tibs will be fondly remembered by Suzanne Wardrop, Steven Barlow, Nick Hall, Steve Hall and Linda Hyland Hall. Tibs was born in Rodmersham, England, but grew up largely in Port Hope, Ont. In World War II, after graduating from U of T (Trinity College), she carried on a five-generation Annesley tradition of naval service as a Wren in the RCN, where she became the first female meteorologist in the Canadian armed forces. Passionate family historian and sports fan. Formidable player of hockey at university and of tennis, especially at Stony Lake, where 'Shear water,' the family cottage, was a treasured haven. Wicked scrabble player. Lover of friends, thrower of wonderful dinner parties and roaster of the 'tenderest turkeys we ever et.' Always quietly present, deeply interested and caring, she will be missed by many. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St, James-the-Less Chapel (635 Parliament St.). Private family interment. If desired, donations may be made to: Friends of the Haida (www.canadahelps.org , keyword: Friends of HMCS Haida); Friends of the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library (c/o Karen Turko, Director of Advancement, Robarts Library, 130 St. George St. Toronto, M5S 1A5); Trinity College (Dept. of Development and Alumni, 6 Hoskin Ave. Toronto, M5S 1H8); or to a charity of your choice.
