HELGA HENDRIKA SONNENBERG (Schoenberger) July 3, 1937 - May 3, 2021 Helga Hendrika Sonnenberg - also referred fondly to by her family as "Oma" and "Mom", passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on Monday, May 3, 2021. Helga was the beloved wife of Gary Sonnenberg (married for 62 years), kind sister to Erika Schoenberger living in Berlin, and the caring mother of four beautiful daughters, Kersten, Andrea, Hendrika, and Helga (Jr.) as well as sons-in-law, Duff, Gary and Chris. She held a very special place in her heart for her grandchildren, Remi, Hendrika and Benjamin, who will forever recognize her as their loving grandmother and steadfast role model. Throughout her life, she supported her family wholly in the pursuit of their schooling, careers and adventures. She was an incredible woman. Outgoing, hardworking, beautiful, intelligent and caring, her individuality and wisdom left a lasting impression on everyone that she met. She will forever be remembered as the problem solver of the family, someone who could understand and empathize with anyone's situation. Helga had a vast and eclectic love and knowledge in so many areas: antiques, arts and fashion, geology, space and science fiction and philosophy. She also had a deep connection to nature, in particular Gull Lake Haliburton County where she spent almost 60 summers. She will be greatly missed by family and extended friends and will forever remain a source of inspiration, strength, courage, as well as an essential figure in the Sonnenberg family. "Always in what Helga accomplished and touched was stylish and considered every day of her life. This held the family together with an everlasting spirit. She was also actively involved in managing and directing the family business Craftwood for over 60 years. I couldn't have done it without her" - Gary We thank the palliative care team at the Temmy Latner Centre and the dedicated staff of VHA Home HealthCare Services.
