Henri Jacques Obituary

Jacques Henri Marquis
Jacques Henri Marquis May 26, 1927 - June 28, 2006 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Jacques. He was born in Quebec City. He spent 5 years in the Cdn Merchant Navy as a radio operator which included the final 2 years of WW2. He changed his birth certificate to 1925 in order to be accepted. In 1951 he joined the Royal 22nd Regiment - Cdn Army. Officer's training was in Kingston and he left with the rank of lieutenant. The 5 years in the army included a tour of duty in Korea. In civilian life he took a job working on the DEW line and then studied sciences at McGill University. His career was in the actuarial and insurance world. One aspect of his work involved setting up the Quebec Pension Plan which was the prototype for the Canada Pension Plan.
His carefree single life ended in 1967 when he married Grace Stelter in Montreal and sailboats and sailing became an integral part of their lives, first at the Pointe Claire Yacht Club on Lac St. Louis in Montreal (Jacques was on the executive for some years) then on 'Vinga' (a 33 foot sailboat) where they sailed to Florida and the Bahamas for a number of years.
In 1989 they moved to Sechelt, BC where Jacques enjoyed tennis, hiking, travelling, concerts and being a member of a music group. He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Grace, his brother Jean-Paul (Marcelle), his nephews Paul and Pierre, his beloved mother-in- law Elsie Stelter and his brothers-in-law Gil (Sally), Al (Joy), Ray (Bonnie), Wayne (Alice) and their families.
