Herbert BINDER Obituary

HERBERT RONALD BINDER It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Herbert Binder. Herb, "the boy next door," best friend and beloved husband of 63 years to Fran Binder. Loving father of Marcy and Leonard Abramsky, and Joel Binder and Janet Bomza. The world's best Zaidy to Bonnie and Albert Oppenheimer, Hillary Abramsky and Ryan Snow, Talia, Jillian Abramsky, Jory Binder and Zach Hershenfeld, Meagan and Josh Greenbaum, Rachel, Mitchell Binder, Jonah, and Danielle Rosenzweig. Zaidy Zaidy of Mollie and Aria Oppenheimer, and Sage Halle Hershenfeld who came into the world just hours after Herb left it. Cherished brother-in-law to Susan Shames and uncle to Michael and Stacey Shamesand Tilly and Or Shemer. A special thank you to Eva, Lorna and Cathy for your devotion and wonderful care to Herb over the last six years. Herb was born in Winnipeg and moved to Toronto at a young age with his adored mother, Bessie. He started his career as a pharmacist in a small store on Parliament Street and worked for over 30 years for Shoppers Drug Mart, a company he loved, eventually becoming President. Herb was the patriarch of our family and was an adored man - by his family, by his friends and by his colleagues. He was the ultimate mensch and ensured his children and grandchildren were instilled with the highest of values - kindness, compassion and integrity. Herb believed that one's good name is your most important possession and that it is not enough to do the right thing - you have to do the right thing the right way. I was in high school and worked at the super friendly drugstore on parliament street. (Before Shoppers moved nearby) Loved working with Herb! He was always gushing about his Frannie. And the gifted Cadillac he could barely afford to drive from gas station to gas station! He had the gift to laugh at himself. Thanks for the memories, Herb!

Herb Binder was my boss when I worked at Shoppers drug Mart on Parliment St. when I was 17-22 years old. When I think back he was 37.. as young as my youngest son right now. He was a good boss and a nice person. Amazing how fast the time has passed. May he rest in peace.
