Hermine WEKERLE Obituary

HERMINE WEKERLE It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful and dear mother Hermine Wekerle on January 5, 2020. Predeceased by her beloved husband Anthony of 55 years. She was the cherished and devoted mother to Caron (Klaus), Christine (Michael), Michael (predeceased Lea-Anne), and Carolyn (Danny); proud grandmother to her lovely grandchildren, Celeste, Carlie, Christian, Michael, Colin, Carson, Danielle, Jonathan, Christel, Raquel, Adam, Ashton, and Emma; kind aunt to Jutta, Heide and Eric; and loyal friend to many. Hermine was a University of Toronto graduate, F.E.U.T. and O.I.S.E. She was a much loved and remarkable teacher for 25 years at Michael Power/St. Joseph Catholic High School in Etobicoke. As a retired teacher, she was invited to be a professor at O.I.S.E., sharing her expertise and love of teaching. After growing up in Vienna, Austria, she came to Toronto and lived with the Sisters of Service. She met her husband, Anthony through St. Patrick's German Congregation where, as a couple, they devoted many years to the Catholic church community as Eucharistic ministers, through pilgrimages, and of serving the greater church community. The family invites you for visitation at Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home (211 Langstaff Road E., Toronto, West of Bayview Avenue) on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 5 to 8 p.m., beginning with a decade of the Rosary, as well as Thursday, January 9, 2020, 11 - 1 p.m. at Blessed Trinity Parish in North York (3220 Bayview Avenue). A Catholic Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. at Blessed Trinity Parish, followed by interment in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Following the interment, the family invites you to a reception held at Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, and in the memory of Mrs. Hermine Wekerle, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Online condolences and directions may be found at www.catholic-cemeteries.com

Tel. 0173/4598955

Dear Caron and family I am so sorry for your loss but at the same time I am so happy to be able to offer some words of praise in honor of Mrs. Wekerle's beautiful life. During my stay at Michael Power St. Joseph's from 1970 to 75 I never had the pleasure of having your mom as my teacher. However she was always a beacon of joy and exuberance for me and all of our fellow students. I believe that sometimes we have saints walking among us who are not ever formally recognized by the ecclesiastical authorities. Hermine lived a life of selfless dedication to others with such a special enduring love for all of her students. Thank you Mrs Wekerle for being for us a radiant beacon of light and love! Continue watching over us till we join you soon enough.

I am so very sad to hear about the passing of your mom, a truly inspirational lady who had a profound and positive impact on my life. I took German for 4 years in high school, not because I wanted to learn German, but because she was such a wonderful human being. She taught me such wonderful life lessons. My condolences to her entire family.

Hermine Wekerle was laid to rest today with a very beautiful ceremony. Deep appreciation for the moving and heartfelt words provided by her favourite (and only) son Michael, Carolyn and Fr. Ed Murphy of Blessed Trinity Parish. We were blessed with contributions from her grandchildren, beautiful music and a gorgeous rendition of Ave Maria. Our mother is smiling in appreciation of all the gracious sentiments directed towards her. I thank you all❣

My deepest condolences to Caron, Christine, Michael and Carolyn and my thanks to each of you for having shared this wonderful woman with us all. As one of Frau Wekerle's kids in the early 70's, I was privileged to have had your Mom in my life as a guiding light, a mother confessor (on more than one occasion) and yes, as a German teacher. But Hermine Wekerle was no mere teacher of language, she taught us humanity, caring, devotion and discipline but always with the greatest sense of joy, of fun and of love. If I'm a better person today, it is because of the care and kindness that your Mom always showed to me as a young student, and her spirit will live on in all of us that she touched. May she rest in the peace and the love of Christ.

I just wanted to offer my condolences to the Wekerle family at this time. I was a student in Frau Wekerle's German class for three years at MP/SJ and she was an outstanding teacher who took an interest in us and made us love to learn to speak German and completing our Hausaufgabe. I had some of my best memories of her classes even today, especially the day she took us out to eat at a German restaurant.

My deepest condolences to the Wekerle family. Frau Wekerle was my favourite teacher throughout my years at MPSJ. The kindest by far and
utterly respected. I'm sure that she touched many in her life and had the same resonance. Rosemarie Lasalandra (Gmiter) MPSJ class of 83

My German teacher many years ago at Michael Power/St. Joseph's High School, Frau Wekerle was a wonderful person. Always with a smile and words of encouragement. I will always remember the various activities that she undertook; moderator of the German Club (skating and Kaffee Klatch), school trips and outdoor activities.
It was always a pleasure to see her at Church dances and after mass.
There is a void left in my heart and I will always remember her with fondness and joy.

Prayers and positive thoughts for you - your motto for laugh, live, love shines on!
You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching,
Love like you'll never be hurt,
Sing like there's nobody listening,
And live like it's heaven on earth.

That my aunt I called her aunt Mädy left us so unexpectedly is so sad for me especially since I had planed to finally see her again in the coming spring.
Many years ago, when I was living in my hometown Vienna, she invited me to stay with her and her family in Toronto. This experience changed my whole life into an amazing and fantastic turn, especially in art.Im still thankful for her generosity .I owe her so much.May God embrace her in his endless Love.

It was a privilege to have Mrs. Wekerle as my German teacher at Michael Power/St. Joseph's High School. It was a further joy to be her son-in-law and witness her many kindnesses, big and small, so freely given with so much joy. Thank you for your example of optimism, perseverance, and love of life!

Your mother, (the always smiling and kind Frau Wekerle to us), was an inspiration, a deeply involved and giving woman of high standards, and much love. I will miss her sincere friendliness, positivity and love of learning and life. May her spirit soar in Heaven now.

I'll miss our mother's always smiling face and positive words of encouragement and support. Every chance she got, she took to say "I love you." Her love was golden and we were very much blessed.

She loved the artwork done by her niece in Vienna, Jutta Venosa, who lived with us in Toronto for a period of time. Mom had a breadth of knowledge of many art forms and she was a pretty strong tap dancer! She loved ballroom and music - Beautiful@
