(née Gates) Our dear mother, Hester Margery Helen Edmonds (née Gates), aged 86, passed peacefully on October 15, 2025, with the assistance of MAID at her home in Grafton, Ontario. She was a fun and devoted mother and avid gardener. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Born in London, England, in 1939 to Margery and Terance Gates. She immigrated to Canada in 1960 with one suitcase in hand and worked as an Occupational Therapist in Montreal. In 1963, Hester married Roger Leon Scazighino, and together they had two daughters - Jane (Jenny) Blacklock and Teresa (Tessa) Sulimirski. They resided in Montreal, Detroit, Connecticut, Toronto, and finally settled in Markham, Ontario. Hester led a full and interesting life, which took her from debutante to vice president of the local Steelworkers Union. In 1996, Hester married Alan Edmonds (1939 – 2004) and soon moved to Port Hope, Ontario. She was active in the Grafton Garden Club, the local book club, and had many close friends. Her last move brought the biggest and best garden yet as she created a masterpiece in Grafton. Hester leaves behind her two daughters and their husbands, Jenny and Nick, and Tessa and Mark - plus three grandchildren, Anna Strasma, Nicholas Sulimirski (Emily), and Mary Corby (Tyler); and four great-grandchildren, Elijah Strasma and Izabella, and Charlotte and Gabriel Sulimirski.
