Holmes MADDOCK Obituary

HOLMES ROBERT MADDOCK III
(June 13, 1949 - December 14, 2022)
It is with great sadness the family shares that Rob passed peacefully the morning of December 14, 2022. Rob was a much-loved husband and best friend to Susan for 48 years and cherished, beloved dad to Jennifer and Stephanie (Andrew). He was an extremely proud grandpa to Wyatt Robert and Charlie Taylor, whom he adored. He was a steadfast big brother to Paul (Barbara) and Beverly (Mark), wonderful brother-in-law to John Charles, and caring uncle to his nieces and nephews. Rob had an absolutely engaging personality and if you met him, you never forgot him. He was a North Toronto boy through and through, attending John Ross Robertson, LPCI and York University, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree. Rob was an accomplished athlete on the football field at LPCI, downhill skiing in Collingwood and Whistler with his family, and of course, in later years, a very competitive, keen curler at the Toronto Cricket Club. He had many successes in curling over the years and if you curled with or against him, you would have been entertained after the game with his stories and banter. Rob worked in surety all his life and retired as Vice President of CNA at the age of 61. He received the Steward of Suretyship Award from the Surety Association of Canada in 2012, recognizing his outstanding contributions to the profession and mentorship to many in the industry. Rob adored the family cottage on Chandos Lake. He worked endlessly to finish the cottage inside and in recent years completed a cozy bunkie on the property. He loved that his family enjoyed so many summer holidays there, entertaining friends over long weekends with tunes playing on the screened-in porch. Rob loved his family and friends. He was supportive, fun-loving and had a terrific sense of humour. He made long-lasting, close friends in all avenues of his life. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by many. A funeral service will be held at St. Clement's Church at 70 St. Clements Avenue on January 11, 2023, at 1 p.m. with a reception following at the Toronto Cricket Club at 141 Wilson Avenue from 2 - 5 p.m.

Have always had a soft spot in my heart for my cousins from my dads brother. Even with a gap in ages, loved visiting your family when mom and dad lived in Toronto. Even after they moved to Calgary and visits were much less, I loved you all from afar. God bless you all.

Dear Sue,
It was so terribly sad to hear of Rob´s passing. Rob was one of the first people I met at the Cricket as he was the true spirit of the curling section. I enjoyed playing with him and against him and spent much enjoyable time with him after our games. He will be fondly remembered by so many.
I am so sorry for your loss.

I attended JRR and LPCI with Rob. He was a school leader, a good multi-sport athlete, well liked and respected by fellow students and teachers. Sincere condolences to his family.

Sue, I am so sorry for your loss. Although I spoke with Rob on only a few occasions, his pride for his family and love of your cottage was always front and centre. He will be missed at Chandon.

While playing in the snow with Lily today, I was reminded of two things that I think about every winter. The ultimate toboggan hill that Rob built down the deck stairs of 67 Deloraine, and the igloo he constructed in the backyard. These winter memories, as well as so many summer cottage memories (never-ending tube rides!) will live on in my heart forever. Rob left a legacy of fun that I´m sure all of Jennifer and Stephanie´s friends will remember him for. Xoxo

Dear Sue,
It was very sad to hear and read of Rob´s untimely passing. I am very sorry for your loss and send best wishes to you and your family.

I did not know Rob that well but can say with certainty that he always had a smile on his face. You two have been penultimate TCSCC members and he will be greatly missed in that environment.

As sad as this is, I know that your will have great memories of your more than 48 years together. We will be in Mexico on the 11th so will miss the funeral. I hope there are many great anecdotes and some laughter included with a difficult time.

This will. Have been a challenging Christmas for the Maddocks. Thankfully you have many supportive friends. Speaking from some experience, the Club is a very good home away from home.

Sincerely, Peter

I have many happy neon-coloured memories of Chandos Lake summers with Rob at the helm of long-weekend fun, in his element surrounded by family and friends to the soundtrack of The Beach Boys. Sending love to all the Maddocks. Still I have the warmth of the sun...

He was a much loved character. I wish I had seen him more recently.
Memories of Rob are hard to forget and his laugh and smirky smile always reminded me of Santa Clause.
Merry Christmas and happy memories to all!!!
Rob would want it that way!!!
