HOWARD GEORGE ASHBOURNE

Howard G. Ashbourne passed peacefully, on Saturday, March 15, 2025, in his 95th year, his wife, Mary Louise, partner in life for over 69 years, by his side. Howard leaves a legacy of seven children, Tom (Linda), Victoria (Greg), Mary (Richard), Anne (Allan), Alexandra, Robert and Kate (Simon); ten grandchildren, Jessica, Thomas, Sean, Meagan, Brendan, Lauren, Livia, Logan, Nathan and Matthew; and seven great-grandchildren. He is survived by sisters, Audrey and Christine; and predeceased by brother, Gordon. Born in Twillingate, NL, Howard was a proud Newfoundlander. He graduated from Victoria College at the University of Toronto, and captained the U of T Blues soccer team in his final year, winning the league championship. He attended Osgoode Hall Law School and was called to the bar in 1958. Howard practiced law in Weston, ON, for over 60 years. He will be remembered for his integrity, attention to detail and desire to help people. He provided sage advice to his clients, as well as to his children (particularly as teenagers). He chaired several Weston area Cancer Society fundraisers and led Weston's centennial celebrations in 1981. "Lion Howard" was an active member of the Weston Lions Club for 60+ years, during which he founded their monthly newsletter and acted as chief editor. The opportunity to serve the community as a Lion, and enjoy the friendships made, was a highlight in his life. Howard had a passion for antiques and fine china. He enjoyed attending auctions, his keen eye seeking additions to his extensive collections. He loved pancakes with maple syrup at Elmira, wouldn't miss the annual Gemboree at Bancroft and planned the best Easter egg hunts – Grandpa Howard you will be missed. After a good life, he's earned his rest in the big squid jigging grounds in the sky – sleep well Howard. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 28th, 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Ward funeral Home (Weston). A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, March 29th, 11:00 a.m. at Central United Church, 1 King Street, York (Weston), and will be livestreamed.
