HOWARD ELLSWORTH Obituary
(October 19, 1931 – February 18, 2026) Howard was born in Welland, Ontario to Lily (née Farnsworth) and Fred Ellsworth and was the third of four siblings. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret and by his son David. Howard is survived by his daughters Susie (Larry) and Katy (Mark) and his two much-loved grandchildren, Jonathan and Rosalind. He was also predeceased by his sister Marguerite and brothers Arthur and Fred. Howard grew up in a sports-mad family where baseball was the high religion. He played third base on baseball teams coached by his father, teams that won three Ontario championships in the 1940s. After a youth bordering on mild juvenile delinquency (at least that's how it sounded to his daughters), Howard graduated from McMaster University in 1954 with a double major in French and Latin. He started his work career with eleven years at Procter & Gamble. Howard spent the majority of his career in the trucking industry, ending as President of Highland Transport, a division of Canadian Pacific Express and Transport. Howard's great loves, after his family, were France and wine. He was never happier than when enjoying a fine meal in France or standing in the middle of a vineyard. He and Marg visited France over two dozen times and shared their love of the country with friends and family. Howard had a well-deserved reputation amongst his friends for being a wine connoisseur and loved sharing his knowledge with others. He also appreciated a fine cigar, a good poker hand and a well-executed bunt. Howard died on February 18th, in Ladner, B.C. with his family by his side. Our thanks go to the wonderful staff at Irene Thomas Hospice in Ladner who took such good care of Howard in his final days. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
