HOWARD MAGER Obituary
HOWARD DAVID MAGER JANUARY 18, 1949 - DECEMBER 26, 2023 It is with profound sadness that the family of Howard David Mager announce his passing. Taken from us far too soon, having fought valiantly to the very end, as against the ravages of metastatic lung cancer, Howard was a man of extraordinary talent, dignity and determination; his grit exceeded only by his prodigious accomplishments. Born in Toronto to the (Late) Saul and Esther Mager (nee Mendelson), beloved spouse of Meera Bharadwaj; younger brother of Mark Mager (Cherie); father of Sabrina Joy Salazar (Josue); Alanna Rachel Rothberg (Jacob); Zaida of Ari Elliott Salazar; Wolf Rothberg; Eve Olivia Salazar; Paternal Uncle of Zoë Leigh Mager (Solomon Israel); Andrea Lauren Mager (Oliver Kremeris); James William Mager and families; nephew of Doreen Mendelson; and as well, Howard leaves behind many cousins; all of whom mourn his loss. A generous, gregarious man of unimpeachable integrity, Howard made his mark in the world of multi-residential real estate investment. Howard's business acumen and sense of timing were mythic, as he went from strength to strength throughout his illustrious real estate career. Throughout his extraordinary lifetime of innumerable achievements, Howard never neglected the needs of his family and community, contributing generously - and anonymously - to countless charitable causes and acute world crises. An avid cottage-loving outdoorsman and boater, Howard loved to sail the nearby lakes and surrounding watery environs throughout Ontario, and the far-flung Mediterranean Sea. Howard David Mager had an indefatigable vivacity and robust appetite for all things new and novel, as throughout his life, from his heady university undergraduate days, and later as a stalwart family man, Howard loved nothing more than the intrepid thrill of frequent travel; setting foot on every world continent and scores of countries. At this momentous time, both the Bharadwaj and Mager families wish to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the impressively talented Dr. Jordan Elmalem. Dr. Jordan Elmalem (affiliated with the renowned Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care) provided unsurpassed, extraordinary and expert palliative care to Howard, throughout his complex medical travails; as did the entire team of medical professionals at Sunnybrook Hospital's Odette Cancer Treatment Centre, where Howard received cutting-edge oncological treatment for seventeen months, post-diagnosis. Diana Placido, PSW; and, Jinky Placido, PSW, worked tirelessly and selflessly; providing round-the-clock personal care to Howard, during the last weeks of his difficult cancer journey. In the process, Meera has come to consider Diana and Jinky akin to family, as they became embedded in Howard and Meera's domestic household. Howard, you will remain forever in our hearts: inimitable and irreplaceable. May your dearly cherished memory be a blessing, you beautiful, peripatetic soul.
