Peacefully in his room among his lifelong colleagues and friends at the Basilian Retirement Home, Anglin House, on Tuesday, July 23, 2013. Hugh was born in Chatham, ON on July 4, 1925, one of three children of Vincent Foley and Edith McMahon. In 1937 the Foley family moved to Toronto where Hugh enrolled in grade 9 at St. Michael's College School. There he played football and hockey with the Junior A St. Michael's Majors until 1942. He was professed in the Congregation of St. Basil in 1943. After studies at the University of St. Michael's College he was ordained a priest in the Congregation in 1950. During his life he was a high school teacher, guidance counsellor and sports coach, interspersed with being assistant pastor in Windsor, ON, Calgary, AB, Ottawa, ON, Sault Ste. Marie, ON, Owen Sound, ON, and finally in Toronto, ON. Hugh was a loyal and supportive friend to many people including his Basilian confrères. He is survived also by loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 26 from 6:30 p.m. with a Wake Service at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of the Cardinal Flahiff Basilian Centre, 95 St. Joseph Street, Toronto. Visitation will also be held on Saturday, July 27 from 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the same chapel. Burial will be at the Basilian plot at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Thornhill, ON.
