I just received St Michael's Alumni Magazine and was saddened to see of Hugh's Passing and also of Eleanor's some years earlier. I worked with both on a Planters Peanuts Float touring Quebec and parts of the Maritimes in the late 50's. They were both wonderful people. I will keep them in my prayers.

I was saddened to hear of Mr. McDougall's passing and remember him with fond memories from SMCS (and, of course, Room 214). I had occasion to meet him a couple of times, many years after SMCS graduation, in the west end of Toronto, which surprised me since he lived in East York, but I later learned (more history) that his family lived in the High Park area when his father was teaching at the University of Toronto. I came across some papers relating to their family home and was happy to send them to him, which was of special interest due to his love of history. My condolences to his family.

A defining character in the history of St. Mike's, and one of the most influential people in my young life there. Thank you, Hughie, for your good guidance, for doling out the necessary discipline, for sharing your knowledge, and for engendering in me a lifelong love of history.

Sincere condolences to the family of a great man who left his indelible impression on generations of young men. R.I.P.

I enjoyed the Mr McDougal experinece in 1960-61 and what a wonderful history teacher he was. It was so nice to see him at the Turkey roll on the occasion of my 51st year post SMCS in 2013. Can't begin to imagine just how many young people he inspired in all of his years. God bless.

Mr McDougall was my history teacher for two years when I attended St. Michael's College School from 1965 to 1970. History was my best subject and Mr. McDougall was the best teacher I ever had. He made an outstanding contribution to the world of education.

I have very fond memories of my high school years at St. Mikes in the early 70s, including many memorable interactions with vice principal McDougall who once claimed I had set a record for the number of "lates" in one month. Rest in peace Mr. McDougall.

Mr. McDougall was my history teacher in Grade 13 in 1965-66. He was an inspiring teacher who motivated me to write the best essay in the class. It was so good that it was stolen from his desk after it was marked. These are the strange events that you remember more than 50 years later. Joe Pivato, class of 1966, St. Mikes CS.

What a fantastic headmaster Hugh was to us wild and crazy teenagers in Lausanne - not sure how he managed to keep us safe and mostly out of trouble. We will surely miss him at our 50th reunion to be held this year.
