Hugh NERLICH Obituary

HUGH HARRY REGINALD NERLICH September 30, 1930 - October 10, 2020 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad and Grandpa. We are at peace knowing that he has been reunited with our Mom, his great love Edythe, whom he had greatly missed. We are very thankful he died peacefully after celebrating his 90th birthday, a magnificent milestone, only days earlier. Harry will be lovingly remembered by us, his children Stephanie (Chris) and Hugh (Carrie) and by his much cherished grandchildren Olivia, Riley, Dylan and Jaime. He supported us all unconditionally as evidenced by the hours logged at baseball diamonds and hockey rinks and by the accumulated letters sent nearly daily when we were away at camp. He taught us about love and instilled in us a belief that we could do anything. He passed on his strong work ethic, which he demonstrated with a long and successful career on Bay Street as an Analyst and Portfolio Manager, maintaining his CFA license into retirement - he was sharp until the end. Grandpa never missed a birthday or a holiday occasion and marked each with a special card, often homemade. Harry is remembered fondly by friends and family alike for his easygoing demeanor, his great smile, his love of jazz, red wine and in his younger years his omnipresent pipe. We thank the staff at Delmanor Prince Edward who ensured he actively enjoyed his last 6 years. An intimate family burial will take place with a celebration of life to follow when it is again possible.

He was a fine man. I knew him some second-hand through your mother and a bit first-hand after she died. I'm sorry for both of you, Stephanie and Hugh, for losing your lovely father.

We (Chris & Graham Jones) will deeply miss my favorite cousin Harry. It was Harry (& Edythe) who after first meeting my new male friend (Graham) that said, "He's the one, keep him" They always warmly welcomed all into their home & lives. The one big laugh was the day HARRY was taking the turkey out of the oven. Instead of pulling the bottom rack out & pushing the HUGE turkey towards the back, Harry pulled the rack out, & I watched as Tom Turkey came flying out of the oven and skidded across the kitchen floor, hitting the cup boards. Edythe let out a scream.. Harry being Harry, said "Don't worry , only the 3 of us saw "Tom" on the floor, a quick wipe & know one will know Tom tried to run away " What a laugh. A wealth of knowledge has now gone with Harry, but as he wrote about our family history to be passed down, we can say THANK YOU HARRY. God bless you as you go meet your maker and reunite with your dearly missed Edythe. You will be deeply missed , but your spirt will remain in our hearts, as we will remember & talk affectionately often of you. . To Stephanie and Hughie, we send our love and sympathy's for the loss of your dad and GREAT man. Rest in Peace Harry... Chris (Clairmont) and Graham Jones

A very dear friend. So sorry to get the news. Lots of special memories of times spent with Edythe and Harry, including our trip to Egypt so many years ago I don't know the date.

Stephanie and Hugh,

I am so sorry about your dad dying. How nice you had him to enjoy for so long. I miss your mum too even after all these years. We had such fun. Harry certainly was a sophisticated jazz lover. He loved it Stephanie when you sent the car for him and took him to the country. He also was so proud of the view from his window of the Humber River this colourful time of year.

I am doing my PhD At UVIC online now. My thesis is about centenarians so Harry did not quite make it. He lived a rich and fulfilling life and was so proud of all of you. We still corresponded.

Suzanne Hynes sent me the notice otherwise I live in isolation on my island in the Pacific.

If either of you are out in Vancouver give me a call. All the girls are here and 12 grandkids. My number is 604-947-9938

My condolences and heartfelt sympathy with love

Stephanie and Hugh,

Suzanne Hynes sent me this. Harry was amazing. How nice you enjoyed him for so long. He was so proud of you all. I miss your mum even now after all these years. If ever you are in Vancouver give me a call. I am doing my PhD on line at UVIC. My thesis is about centenarians so Harry did not quite make it. One of his favourite things was to be picked up by your driver Stephanie and driven to your country home. He was such a devoted music lover and good at bridge... a dying art.
My condolences and heart felt sympathy

So sorry to hear of Harry's death. David and I were their neighbours on Pinehurst. Every Saturday morning your Mom and I did the gardening and the chatting. Dave last saw Harry last summer (2019) at Merlot. We really enjoyed their company. Our condolences.
