Iain DOWNIE Obituary

IAIN F. DOWNIE July 9, 1939 - August 5, 2022 Devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, Iain Fleming Downie of Thunder Bay, ON, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 5, 2022, at the age of 83. His wife and children were at his side. Iain was born July 9, 1939, in Scotland and immigrated to Canada in 1957. He attended University of Toronto and graduated as a PEng Geologist. He had a successful career in mineral exploration across North America: a pioneer of diamond exploration in Canada, a recipient of the PDAC Bill Dennis Prospector of the Year, and the NWOPA Lifetime Achievement Award. Iain was devoted to his wife of 58 years and family. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Anne; children, Malcolm, Ewan, Andrea; and nine grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held at 2530 Lisa Court in Thunder Bay, on Saturday, August 13 from 1-4 p.m. Memorial donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Iain when we both worked for Selco Mining. I always looked forward to going through Thunder Bay because I would get the chance to meeting up with Iain.

Our deepest condolences to the Downie family during this time of sorrow. Iain and Anne and their sons and daughter were superlative neighbours when they lived on Sheridan Crescent. I enjoyed many years of cross country skiing and cycling with Iain. He was always entertaining and pleasant as was Anne. Our association will be fondly remembered.
