Ian ARCHIBALD Obituary

IAN CAMERON ARCHIBALD Ian went Home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Saturday, January 9, 2021, in his 72nd year. Beloved husband of Marlene (Wilson). Dear father of Joanne (Ben) Edwards, Andrew (Jess) Archibald, and Karen (Rich) VandenBerg. Loving grandfather to Ethan, Rhys, Zeke, and Rose. Precious brother of Janet Archibald, Stuart Archibald, and Merrin (Ross) Thomson. Ian's life was marked by his love for God and his love for people. He loved enthusiastically with a generous dose of humor thrown in. His faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was his cornerstone, and this is best reflected in one of his favourite Bible verses "I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation." Such a focus influenced his priorities in life, his business dealings, his work ethic, his generosity, his love for others, and his service. Born and raised in Toronto, Ian finished his M.Sc. Degree in Agriculture in 1977 at the University of Guelph. Previous to that, he spent a few years as assistant pastor at Crestwick Baptist Church. In the spring of 1977, he went farming which was his desired vocation since childhood. He was well loved and respected in the community, and his knowledge of the soil microbiome has helped farmers around the province. Our thanks go to the Southlake Regional Health Care team on several wards and the ICU, and particularly to Dr. Jayakar and Dr. Lingley, all of whom offered exemplary care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Ian to Ethnos Canada, a mission group he loved, to Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation designated to Infectious Disease Department - Dr. Michael Lingley, or the Cannington Baptist Church (by mail). Arrangements entrusted to Low and Low Funeral Home, 23 Main Street South, Box 388, Uxbridge L9P 1M8 (905-852-3073). In light of Covid restrictions, there will be a small private funeral attended by immediate family and live streamed for relatives and friends on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., please visit www.lowandlow.ca/notices.htm for the link to the live stream. We find comfort in the thought that Ian is now in the presence of Jesus whom he loved and served so faithfully. To God be the glory!

Dear Marlene and Family,
It is with great sorrow that I reach out to you. Let you find comfort knowing how great a person that I thought Ian to be. I had the privilege to know Ian as a fellow farmer as I purchased the best stock I ever had from him. I found him to be very fair, kind, knowledgeable and willing to share advice or help out in any way he could, and enjoyed his humour. If they only made more like him!
A true loss to us all!
Sincerely,
Kevin Webster and Family

In the 24th chapter of Book Of Deuteronomy, we read 'Abraham was now a very old man, and the Lord had blessed him in every way'. As Rick and I watched the funeral service and listened to the messages and stories shared , I'm sure Ian would have said the same words looking back on his life , "God has blessed me in every way". Not only was he blessed , he was also a blessing to many. Rick and I are grateful for special memories we have of him while students at the University of Guelph, living in Uxbridge, and reconnecting with him numerous times since.
Rick and I send hugs and our heartfelt sympathy to Marlene and her family.

As an OAC '72 grad, I recall Ian from U of G....he was a likeable and genuine individual with high standards. He always had a smile on his face and I admired his friendly demeanour...my condolences are extended to Ian's entire family...I am sure you will all miss him, but especially the grandkids as they did not have as a long time to enjoy their grandpa....may he rest in peace....Rick Turnbull

Old Shiloh Road will not be the same without Ian. For years after every snow fall, he would plow neighbour's lane ways. Many times after coming home from work, I would think that I would have to park on the road while I shoveled the driveway at night after a long commute home. But when I got home, our driveway was plowed to our gate. He always waved when passing us on the roads and always had a big smile on his face. I loved buying his vegetables at Jak's garden. We will miss your presence here.

I was a friend of Ian's from high school. He was in my class and we both played trumpet at Lawrence Park. Ian's Mom and Dad were also good friends and supported the Roberts' family when my parents were missionaries in Ecuador. It was wonderful to see how much Ian loved Jesus and left a great family legacy.

Ian was a spiritual mentor of mine early in life. I was good friends with his children and he Was always supportive, full of life and humour. His love of the Lord was contagious and was always willing to help in time of need. See you on the other side, my friend! My love goes out to Marlene, Jo, Andrew, Karen and his loved ones.
