IAN CHARLES WHITTIER BUTLER Ian W. Butler, 78, passed away in Toronto, December 3, 2020. As son of Charles Whittier and Rosamund McCoy Butler (March 29, 1942 - Montreal) he descended from families who founded Ontario's cheese industry (Elmhurst, Ingersoll), built yachts in Brighton, and wrote poetry (John Greenleaf Whittier). A graduate of Monklands HS and Concordia University (Commerce), he spent vacations working on dining cars of CN where he learned to cook and love trains. His career began as a buyer with Simpson-Sears, but it was at Woods Gordon that he developed expertise in technical textiles (nonwovens). Marketing positions at Camco, Stearns, CA, and Veratec, CA gave him hands-on experience in consumer markets and fueled his understanding of volumes and market trends. Then an independent consultant, he was recruited by INDA, Association of the Nonwovens Industry (USA) as Director of Market Research and Statistics (ret. 2012). Sought for his expertise, he wrote reports on worldwide product volumes and lectured in Europe, Asia, Australia and the Americas, Easily a friend to all, Ian was an accomplished host, chef, gardener, and renovator who loved travel, antiques, music, fine food & wine. Surviving are son, David; daughter, Stephanie (Talbot) Babineau (Hudson, Bryce); brother, Michael (Mary); mother of his children, Arras, and loving wife, Kathryn. Arrangements by Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with memorial services Spring 2021 (St Paul's, Bloor Street and Durham, NC, USA) as he was a dedicated Anglican, but would never miss a party, champagne, or a chance to dance!
