Ian MCCULLOCH Obituary
MCCULLOCH, Ian Leslie
86, of Chester, NS, passed away
peacefully with his family by his
side on 2 September 2017, at
Shoreham Village Seniors Care
Home. Born in Westmount, PQ,
he was the middle son of the
late Alexander Leslie McCulloch
and Eleanor Mildred (Sykes)
McCulloch. Ian graduated with an
LLB from Dalhousie in 1954 and
then (with his late wife Gretchen
(nee Hewat) of Lunenburg)
raised his family in Oakville,
Ontario. Ian had a long and
distinguished law career with
Cassels, Brock and Blackwell of
Toronto; during this time, he
earned his QC. He served as
solicitor for General Synod of the
Anglican Church of Canada
between 1985 and 1994 and
chancellor of the Ontario
Provincial Synod from
1988-1994, and in 1995 received
the Anglican Award of Merit, Ian
loved choral music and his rich
baritone voice graced the choirs
of St. Jude's Church (Oakville)
Grace Church-on-the-Hill
(Toronto) and finally Saint
Stephen's Church (Chester). Ian
was an avid golfer and loved the
camaraderie of the Toronto and
Chester Golf Clubs. To all who
met him Ian was known as a true
gentleman with a kind
demeanor. He was predeceased
by his brothers Robert and
Michael and second wife Helen.
He is survived by his loving and
devoted spouse of 27 years
Maria Arnott, his 3 children;
Bruce, Alex (Mary), Janet (Jim)
and step-daughter Alexandra; 9
grandchildren; Amy, Lisa,
Gretchen, Meghan, Malcolm,
Timothy, Kelsey, Janis, Joanna;
and 2 great-grandchildren Aiden
and Theodore. Cremation has
taken place. Memorial service
will be held at Saint Stephen's,
Chester NS at 11am September
7th, with longtime friend The
Reverend Canon Stephen Booth
presiding. The family extends
thanks for the tender care
provided by the Shoreham
Village staff. In lieu of flowers,
donations can be made to the
Anglican Church of Canada or
Parkinson Canada.
