I was saddened to hear just today of Ian's passing. Ian was my boss in the Legal Branch of Ontario Hydro many years ago. He was kind, understanding, fair and well respected. Hilary and family, please accept my sincere condolences at this very difficult time.

I just learned of Ian’s passing from a mutual friend. Although Ian and I were out of touch for too many years, I always considered Ian to be a friend for life, and vice versa I trust. My condolences to Hilary (and Karen) and his entire family. We have all lost a wonderful person.

My sincere condolences to Hillary and Ian’s family
I only made Ian’s acquaintance during the last 6 years at the Cricket Club. During the winter tennis season, we would try to get out to hit the tennis ball. I often told both my family and friends how I enjoyed hitting the ball with him because he always seemed so enthusiastic and happy to be active and on the courts. Despite his leg brace, he seemed determined to chase down every ball and try to get in position to hit a winner with a backhand down the line. After our hour on the tennis court, we often sat in the lounge and chatted about family, sports, and world events while he drank his coffee and waited for Hilary to meet him before they would head off on some adventure together. He always seemed positive and in motion. I thought he was just a great guy. I am happy to have known him - even if it was for a short time.

I was so sorry to read of Ian's passing. He was my boss for many years while we worked together in Law Division of Ontario Hydro. He was always thoughtful and eager to help. He also tried to bring some fun to the job by planning social events and activities. He had a warm heart and will be missed. My condolences to Hilary and the family.

Although our paths had not crossed in over 50 years, I was saddened to learn of Ian’s passing. We met on the train from Montreal to Jasper and roomed together as caddies at Jasper Park Lodge. We were in different degree programs at McGill but did run into each other on campus and visited. Ian’s career and and life experience and his commitment to family is no surprise. He was a great person. My sincere condolences.

Good-bye Ian. We shall truly miss your subtle humor and fun stories down in the BVIs. You've gone to that vast warm beach where we hope to meet again, to walk the soft sands and cool-off in the clear waters, watching the charters sail by, before ambling over to the Soggy Dollar for some rum. Thank you for your friendship, George & Betsy Longstreth

My wife, Debby, and I were blessed to become close to Ian and Hilary in our shared love of the British Virgins. Ian presented himself as a thoughtful, steady companion who was able to season any conversation with a pointed and funny contribution combined with a sly smirk of personal joy.
Hugs to all in the family, Bruce

We were football teammates at WSH so long ago in 1959. Ian was a leader and someone you never forgot. May he rest in peace and know that many others share in his family's grief.

I worked with Ian at Ontario Hydro; we were developing community impact agreements for the Niagara Project. He was always helpful and available. We found that both of our children were abroad teaching English and we compared their experiences. He was kind, generous, and knowledgeable. And he worked too hard; he was there at work late in the evening dedicated to the job. A terrific man. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Our sincere condolences regarding your loss of “Uncle Ian”. He was a life-long friend to Norm and Heather Burrows and a dear uncle to John Burrows and Sue Kennedy(Burrows). His regular calls with Heather after Norms passing were truly appreciated. With fond memories, he will be missed!

Hilary and Family,
I am sad to hear of Ian's passing. We worked together at MPAC where he was an excellent lawyer and unique character who shared his knowledge and opinions beautifully. I can still hear his "deep bellowing laugh" and remember fondly the way he interacted with me when I was a young new sales rep with lots to learn from him. I wish I had known then that he was a football wonder. I think of him often and extend my sincerest condolences to you. He always spoke of his family with great pride.

I am deeply saddened to learn of my dear cousin Ian’s death - always a favourite person to be with as children growing up together. So many happy memories in spite of no recent visits but wonderful emails and phone calls. My sincere sympathy to the entire family during this very stressful time.
Attempts to phone Di failed unfortunately.

Hilary and family, I was terribly shocked and saddened to hear of Ian’s passing. I so enjoyed our weekly singles matches for many years at The Cricket. He was skilled and determined always and persisted through the discomfort and limitations of his knees to often reach balls unexpectedly. He was especially dangerous on his backhand side. The only times he ever got angry were at himself for missing a shot.
More importantly, we almost always enjoyed a good chat over coffee after our match covering a wide range of topics, most commonly travel and politics.
He will be missed tremendously on the courts. A great competitor and a true gentleman.
Rest In Peace Ian.
With fond memories,
Bruce Simmonds
