IAN RANKIN Obituary

March 10, 1951 - March 18, 2025 With sad, but full hearts we announce Ian's passing on March 18, 2025. Born March 10, 1951, in Vancouver, BC, he passed away peacefully, at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, days after his 74th birthday, surrounded by family and friends, after a brave battle with cancer. Predeceased by parents, Josephine and James; and sisters, Christy, Liz, and Jenny. Survived by children, Stephanie, Emily, and Alex; loving partner, Carole; and many friends. The outdoors defined him. He took great pleasure in biking, sailing, skiing, travelling, gardening, home renovation projects, reading the newspaper, and hosting friends on Ward's Island. Thank you to the wonderful staff at Toronto General and Princess Margaret Hospitals. A celebration of life will be held later in the spring. He will be so missed.

Added note the reference to abandoning the west coast; was a light hearted comment. We always enjoyed Ian´s visits back "home" and will miss them dearly.

Hi Carole and Family,

Sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of meeting Ian every Saturday morning at his place in the Beaches for long runs while training for a marathon.

Ian (and Mark) offered me my first full time job in the industry - and I am so grateful for his guidance, mentorship and friendship through the years. Gone to soon - but so fondly remembered. Family/friends may want to go to Hugh Fardy's LinkedIn - as he posted Ian's obituary, and there are kind words and remembrances from his insurance industry colleagues. Rest in peace
