Ian Gordon Stewart, husband to Carol M. Stewart (nee Soden), youngest son of Henry J. Stewart and Irene M. Stewart (nee Clerk), was born in Montreal, October 1, 1926, and peacefully left his earthly body on October 20, 2025, in Toronto. Family was important to Ian and nothing made him happier than being surrounded by immediate and extended family members. He is survived by two of his daughters, Penelope (Jean-Guy) and Wendy; his grandchildren Chris, Hayley, Lesley (Shiva), and Christine a.k.a. Kiki; two great-grandchildren Ayana and Hugo; and his sister-in-law Betty Stewart. Predeceased were his youngest daughter Heather; and his siblings John, Margaret, Marion, Betty, Kathryn, and Donald. As a young man, coming of age during World War II, his ambition as stated in his Westmount High School yearbook was to become General Stewart. Ian was proud of his service, active and reserve service both during and after the war, serving for 16 years as a member of the 6th Duke of Connaught's Royal Canadian Hussars of Montreal. The army taught Ian discipline, focus, leadership, and motorcycles, all of which formed the basis of his distinguished career in business (perhaps not so much the motorcycles). This career created travel opportunities for the family to live abroad (U.K. and U.S.A.). His success led him to become an early member of the Young President's Organization where he was active in the London, Chicago, and Toronto chapters and affiliated organizations. He was an avid skier, traveller (visiting over 100 countries), lover of symphony and theatre, and forever in search of his Scottish roots. He had a lifetime hobby as a stamp collector/philatelist, always being sure to remind his children that a philatelist is never to be confused with a philanthropist. Many thanks to the medical staff at St. Michael's Hospital and Sunnybrook Medical Centre, to Dr. Logue, his family physician, and to all the health care professionals who worked so hard to keep Ian with us. We are also grateful to Fernanda Serpa for her loving support and care. The family will receive friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles - Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) on Sunday, November 2nd from 2 to 4 p.m.; and funeral services on Monday, November 3rd, at 11 a.m. with reception and interment to follow.
