SPRY, Irene Mary (ne
e Biss) O.C., M.A. (Cantab.), LL.D. (Hon.) Professor Emeritus Economics, University of Ottawa Died peacefully, December 16, 1998, in her home in Ottawa, her children at her side. Born Standerton, South Africa, August 28, 1907. An economic historian, a ceaseless fighter for women through the Associated Country Women of the World, an untiring supporter of a social democratic approach to public policy, and mentor to many, she died knowing that her most recent book "From The Hunt to the Homestead" will be co-published by the University of Alberta and University of Calgary Presses. Survived by Lib, Robin (Jackie), and her two grandchildren, Jeremy and Zoe Spry. Predeceased by her husband Graham and her son Richard. With many thanks to all the many people who provided so much love, care and support during her last weeks. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Irene Spry Memorial Fund, c/o The Community Foundation of Ottawa-Carleton, Suite 301, 75 Albert Street, Ottawa, Ontario, K1P 5E7. Visitation will be at Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 MacLeod, Ottawa, Ontario on Sunday, December 20 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and Monday, December 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., St. Bartholomew's Church, 125 MacKay Street, New Edinburgh, Ottawa.
