IVOR SHERLOCK Obituary

February 22, 1939 - October 20, 2024 It is with great sadness and a broken heart that Nancy Player announces the peaceful death of her partner, Ivor Sherlock, on October 20, 2024, after a full and vibrant life. Ivor was predeceased by his parents, Lilian and Lewis Sherlock. Ivor was born in England in 1939, and moved to Canada with his parents in 1958. Mom and Pop Sherlock became the honourary heads of the Canadian family - a group of ex-patriate Brits who began by having parties on Jonesville Avenue in the "swinging '60s" and have spent over fifty years celebrating life events and holidays together. Christmas was a special time that included making ever more elaborate gifts for each other and performing skits and musical numbers in each other's basements. Ivor could always be counted on to wear his paper hat throughout Christmas dinner. Ivor graduated from the University of Toronto School of Dentistry in 1963 and had a dental practice in Toronto until his retirement in January 2018. Ivor was widely recognized as a superb dentist who took pride in doing work that withstood the test of time. Many loyal patients still consider Ivor and Nancy to be their friends. Ivor loved fishing, tolerated golf and was an enthusiastic sports fan, but his true passion was downhill skiing. For many years, the "Muffin Men" took annual trips to Gray Rocks and later Mont Tremblant where they spent the days carving up the slopes and late nights engaging in revelry with an ever-widening group of friends. Ivor was a highly-skilled skier whose adventures included skiing in the Alps and heli-skiing in British Columbia. Despite numerous knee issues, Ivor continued to go on ski trips with friends to Collingwood until recently. Ivor bought his beloved cottage on Six Mile Lake in 1971, and for the next fifty years, he entertained friends, family and neighbours with gourmet meals, lots of wine and if you were lucky, some delicious mushrooms he foraged in the woods that surrounded his cottage. Ivor was a great friend to many who could be counted on in difficult times. He will be sadly missed by those he has left behind. Special thanks to the Thursday Night Cork friends for all of the laughs and great conversations over the years. Thank you to Dr. Ezra Hahn and Dr. Lawson Eng at Princess Margaret Hospital and the staff at Sunnybrook Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre (375 Mount Pleasant Rd.) on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. If desired, donations in the memory of Ivor Sherlock may be made to the Charity of Your Choice.

Deepest condolences to Nancy and family. I had the opportunity to work with Ivor, Barbara, Vicky and Nancy in my first job after graduating as a dental assistant over 33 years ago. I learned so much from all of them. By far, Ivor's office was most kind, friendly and generous office in my career of aprox 33 years. He enjoyed his garden and tea and cookies. He always treated his staff as well to breakfast. It says so much as to the person and professional that he was as well as all of his staff. I have the best memories of this time in my life. I'm sorry to hear of his loss.

I just want to tell Nancy how sorry I am to hear of Ivor's passing. I had been going to Dr. Sherlock since I was about 5 years old. He always made sure that I was happy. Ivor was quite the perfectionist and he did a lot of work in my mouth. He called my mouth a "special case" because of all the crowns and root canals that were put in my mouth. On my last visit to see him, I thanked him for all of his hard work. He was a one of a kind dentist, and I am forever grateful to have had him. Ivor gave me great advice over the years which I am very thankful for, and I will miss him.
Our condolences to you, Nancy

Ivor Sherlock was my dentist for more than 40 years. He was a gentleman and an incredible dentist. Nancy welcomed patients to the clinic with a warm and personal greeting and Ivor provided the superb dental services. He will be greatly missed. Condolences to the family.

To Nancy and family Ivor lived life to the fullest. We had so many wonderful times at the cottage on 6 mile lake. It was a privilege to have known him. Now he's at peace and no longer suffering. God bless.
