J. CRAIG MILLER Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our darling J. Craig Miller, on April 24, 2024, in Montreal, Quebec, at the age of 57. Craig died surrounded by his family's loving embrace after an 18-month experience with lung cancer. Craig was so many things to so many of us: a true gentleman, a conscientious citizen of the world, a well-read debater, stargazer, sunset catcher, cottage lover and crossword enthusiast, but most importantly, he was simply the most honourable husband, father, son, brother, uncle, business leader and loyal friend that one could ask for. Craig had many happy places throughout his vibrant life, forging lifelong friendships in each of them. He developed a love of the outdoors from childhood days sailing at the Port Credit Yacht Club in Mississauga, cherished summers at Camp Ahmek in Algonquin Park, loved his time spent at the Millden farm and Beaver Valley Ski Club. His formative years at Western University, where he met his love, Christina, included a year abroad together in the South of France, which set the course for his adult life. Craig and Christina married in 1991 and lived in Toronto, where they built a network of friends while Craig worked for AC Neilsen & Cott Beverages. Work took them to London, England, where their first daughter was born, and then they moved to Montreal in 1997 where they settled in Westmount and two more daughters completed the family. The shores of Lac Simon became Craig's sanctuary, where he enjoyed gardening, reading on the dock, pulling the kids waterskiing, and countless laughter-filled weekends with cherished friends and family. In 2014, Las Terrenas, DR , became the family's second home, where they created lasting memories as part of yet another loving community. Craig's robust career in Montreal included 11 years in the textiles business with QMD Medical, followed by 16 years as the Canadian President of Sigvaris Corporation. He volunteered for several organizations which mattered to him, and helped Christina behind the scenes in her company too. In each of these places, he worked with so many people whom he loved and respected. Despite Craig's grave diagnosis in October 2022, he impressed us all with his positivity as he focussed on his health. It is no exaggeration that he would go from chemo to the tennis court and recently enjoyed a 10 km walk on Mount Royal after radiation therapy. Craig did not like the phrase 'battling cancer.' He preferred to say he was "climbing a mountain, one step at a time," and that "You don't always make it to the top, but you never give up trying." Craig insisted that nobody ever say 'poor guy' when speaking his name, as he was very grateful for a life filled with the happiness associated with his friends, family, a great education, and all the privileges that come along with those things. Craig was deeply loved by his wife of 32 years, Christina Ayoub Miller; his three daughters, Erika (Pablo Vera Arias), Justine, and Olivia; parents, Beth and Roy Miller; siblings, Alison (Richard Turner), Scott (Trish Linton), and Samantha; his in-laws, Maila and Steve Ayoub, Jeff Ayoub (Margot McCulloch); his ten nieces and nephews, and a host of friends who he treated like family. All are welcome to a visitation on May 9th at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at St. George Orthodox Church, 575 Rue Jean-Talon East. Expression of condolences to the family may also be made from 6-6:45 p.m. at Maison Principale, 872 Rue du Couvent in St.Henri. An evening tribute to Craig for friends and family will follow. Donations to any of three causes close to his heart would be most appreciated: On The Tip of The Toes Foundation, The Cedar's Cancer Foundation – Craig's Crew Dragonboat Team, or The Dominican Joe Kids Foundation.

We didn't know Craig personally very well but we felt we did because our great friends, his in-laws Maila and Stevie Ayoub have been singing his praises for years!! We have been following the dreadful progression of his disease over the last year with horror, disbelief and also amazement in his courage and fortitude and love of life. We extend our deepest sympathies to Christina, her girls, his parents and of course Maila and Stevie!! May he rest in Peace!

To the Miller women. I worked for Craig for 10 years and even though our functions were vastly different, he never made me feel lesser than. Craig was probably the most genuine person I have ever met. He always came to see me to shake my hand for my birthday or my Sigversary or just to thank me for a job well done. You have no idea what that meant to me. I previously worked for someone who told me that I wasn´t paid to think. That was the exact opposite approach that Craig took. He realized that in order for things to run smoothly, all things have to fall into place whether it´s the leadership he provided, the sales team or the warehouse workers. We were all made to feel as if we were an important part of the team. I will forever remember him for that. He realized that to be successful all people from different walks of life have to come together to achieve a common goal which was always to make Sigvaris the best company that we could be. I will miss his laughter and his infectious smile. My thoughts are with you all during this difficult time.

I wanted to Thank you Christina, Erika, Justine and Olivia for the truly inspiring Tribute to Craig last night. It was a tribute to a life well lived- and well loved. I shall cherish it.

I met Craig nearly 11 years ago and he was perhaps the most passionate, humble, motivating and compassionate person I have ever met, not least to have had the honor of working with. He taught me much.

Certain speakers last night spoke of "collisions" in terms of the interactions we have with people in our lives. My own collisions with Craig certainly made me a better person and launched me in new and better directions - and I thank him dearly for those. He loved to see and relish and explore the endless possibilities in this world. I will hold these lessons in my heart forever.

Thank you so much for sharing him with us.

Christina, Erika, Justine, and Olivia, please accept our heartfelt condolences for the tragic loss of your husband/dad. We were deeply saddened to hear about Craig's passing. As you know, Kim worked with Craig for many years and very much valued the relationship with him - and Georgia and I also very much enjoyed the time we spent with him. We still use a number of "Craig-isms" in our family to this very day and will continue to do so with fondness and gratitude. With many good times and lots of laughs, he will be truly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Please know our thoughts are with you and your entire family as you navigate through this difficult time. Please take comfort in knowing there are many people, including our family, who would do anything to help you in this difficult time. Dear Christina and family,

Please accept my families' deepest condolences for the loss of Craig. I worked with Craig for his entire Sigvaris 16 year career, although from the United States, Peachtree City Georiga facitily.

Craig was very good at keeping me on my toes and was always testing me with "why" something had to be done a certain way. He was rarely someone that would just accept the answer "that's just the way it is". He wanted a deeper reason as why to why things had to be done a certain way.

Prayers of comfort and holding onto the fond memories you have of Craig to you and your family.

Craig and I shared our formative years growing up on Pinewood Trail. Their house was a Centerpoint for swimming lessons, exploring the back forest and shed and generally getting upto no good as young boys do. I will forever keep those memories with me and be thankful for knowing him. He had had a wonderful life and family and that´s truly the best we can all hope for.

Craig was the most generous, funny smartest guy at Cott. He always had such an approachable way. Very supportive of others around him. He came to my father´s funeral and I vividly remember Craig standing on the sidewalk and giving me an hug .... and I was so touched to see him there. That was 1993. I am so sad to hear this news but what an amazing husband and father and friend to all. Kirsten Chapman
