Doug was a valued colleague of mine on the court who made a significant contribution to the law of British Columbia over his many years of service,
I regret that I am unable to attend the memorial service today and I extend my condolences to his family and friends.

Douglas and Barbara were dear friends for so many years. The photo shows them at the train station in Italy welcoming Kumyuen for a visit. They are deeply missed.

I first met Douglas when he interviewed me for an articling position in 1973. As someone involved in Aboriginal law and BC history, I of course then followed with great interest his series of insightful (and sometimes dissenting) judgments on Aboriginal rights and title after he was appointed to the BC Court of Appeal.
I got to know Douglas better when we both worked on an Aboriginal title and treaty case a few years ago. It was an honor to work with someone of his stature and a pleasure to collaborate with such a knowledgeable and congenial workmate.
I raise a glass to a remarkable jurist, and extend my condolences to his friends and, above all, to his family.

I had the honour of serving as a law clerk to Justice Lambert while he was sitting on the number of Aboriginal law appeals in 1992-1993. He was a great mentor and teacher and an amazing and accomplished human being. My condolences to his family.
