JACK LONG, C.M., MusBac Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jack Long, on September 4, 2024, at the age of 95. Jack's love of music began when he was 12 years old. He obtained a degree in Music from The University of Toronto. It was there that he met Carol, his loving wife of 65 years. Together they built a happy life filled with love, family and music. He was predeceased by Carol; and their son, Jonathan. Jack was well known in the Toronto music community, not only as a talented jazz trumpet player, but also as the founder of Long and McQuade Musical Instruments and Yorkville Sound. Throughout his career he made a positive impact on the lives of many. He mentored countless individuals, helping them to pursue their musical goals. His dedication to his work and his commitment to music and his community set him apart as a true leader in his field. Jack will be greatly missed by his five children, Steven (Helen), Catherine (Ken), Jeffrey (Octavia), Julie, Jennifer (Mark); his 15 grandchildren, Ryan, Gregory, Evan, Aaron (Elizabeth), Victoria, Christopher (Nicole), Michael (Yuri), Daryl (Meaghan) Adam, Jordan (Heather), Jackson, Emily, Nathalie, Benjamin, Matthew; his two step-grandchildren, Katherine and Michael; and his five great-grandchildren, Oliver, Fiona, Theodore, Violet and Jack. I only met Jack and Carol a few times but always knew I was in the presence of an amazing and dynamic pair. I knew about Long and McQuade long before I knew the family behind the chain. As the spouse of a longtime L&M staff, I have always been grateful for Jack´s kindness and his strongly held ethics. He was one of a kind and will be greatly missed. Our sympathies to his large, beautiful family. May Jack´s memory be a blessing to each of you.

This is such sad news to hear, but it is also a wonderful ending of a chapter in the Long Family story. You will be missed by so many, alongside your family, friends and loved ones, I can only imagine how many who considered you a teacher and mentor. I count myself privileged to have been able to know you and spend time with you, weither it be sitting on the couch overlooking the lake or going on the boat to get some ice cream, but my favorite would have to be when Carol would play the piano and you would accompany her perfectly with your horn.. I can't help but smile when I think of that and how lucky was I, to be able to just sit quietly and get lost In such small and personal performances, it really was a privilege and I will always cherish those memories. Anytime Scott would mention that we have been invited I would jump at the chance.
Thank you Jack for being so genuine and kind.
Give Carol a great big from me.
Rest in Peace Mr.Long
And thank you for the memories
