Jack STODDART Obituary

JACK STODDART August 25, 1944 - January 17, 2019 Jack Elliott Stoddart, Officer of the Order of Canada, died at his home in Rednersville, Ontario leaving his beloved wife, Nancy; his wonderful step-daughters, Zoë (Ben), Tessa (Dan), and Emma (Graeme); and grandchildren, Rowley, Mies, Miriam, and Eloise. He was the son of the late Jack Sr. and Ruth Stoddart. Grandpa Jack loved to be out on the water with others, sharing his love of boats and nature with his grandchildren, family, and friends on long sunset rides around Georgian Bay and Bay of Quinte. Jack's love and impressive knowledge of music (particularly rock 'n roll, blues, and country) filled their home with great music, echoing his younger days as a bass player in the B.J. Rebels, and inspired many impromptu dance parties with the grandkids before supper. Jack's calm and loving presence, his steadfast support, his sound advice and, most of all, his deep love and care for Nancy will be greatly missed and forever cherished by the family and friends he leaves behind. In keeping with Jack's considerable and influential career in publishing Canadian literature, donations in his name may be made to County Kids Read (www.countykidsread.ca) or the Picton Library (www.peclibrary.ca). A private family service was held at home. A celebration of Jack's life will take place in the spring.

I know it´s four years after the fact (and I was actually aware not long afterwards) but I was talking to our mutual friend, Bruce Staubitz, last week and then Google brought me here. Another childhood friend gone. Ave atque vale. - Paul Shaw

Very sad to hear of Jack's death. Many enjoyable years spent with him and B.J. Rebels, traveling afar, renovating, boating and fun cottage times with family and friends.
Jack had a dream for Canadian Publishing and worked hard to promote the Industry.
My condolences to the family.
Sincerely,
Linda Ogryzlo (Stoddart)
