James BATEMAN Obituary

JAMES RUSSELL BATEMAN Jim was born in Belleville April 20 1952, son of Russell and Grace. He died peacefully April 11, 2022, at Toronto General Hospital with his dedicated wife, Ana Felix by his side. Loved by his friends and family as a warm and generous person who made everyone feel welcome. His happiest moments were spent sharing a meal with the people he loved. He was a spirited guitar player and had an engaging mind and a great sense of humour with a loud laugh. He will be greatly missed by his children, Kate (Heather Bailey), Jamie (Kelly), Greg, and Jean Paul Valentim (Maria); sisters, Karen Reiss (Murray) and Paddy Foster (John); grandchildren, Irving, Fraser, Hannah, and Billy Bateman, and Evelyn and Wallace Valentim; and niece, Kaya Reiss. Celebration of life to be scheduled at a later date.

Jim and I worked as partners together for many years building financial information systems in the financial services industry with a few other friends. Having Jim around made it all so much more fun, as he exercised his quick wit and took great pride in his ability to pull out semi-obscure words with studied casualness and apparent aplomb - waiting to see if his partner would appreciate properly his supreme and, no doubt, always superior language skills.
Mike (my husband) and Fin (my very young son) stayed with Jim in the small hunting/fishing cabin which was the forerunner to the beautiful place he later built in the area. We also shared many evenings of food, wine and laughter. In our memories, Jim will always have a place which is well-stocked with love, fun and admiration.

We fondly remember the time James and Ana hosted us at the beautiful house they built by the lake. He was a generous host and a wonderful cook.
