JAMES McKAY "JIM" BERWICK

(1941 - 2026) Beloved husband of Margaret for 48 years, passed away in Kelowna General Hospital on January 26th. Jim was born in Montreal, the eldest son of K. Cameron Berwick and Margaret McKay Berwick, and was a graduate of McGill in Chemical Engineering. He worked in Montreal, and in retirement moved to Kelowna to ski powder and play golf. Jim was a man of few words and a skier par excellence. His claim to fame was that he skied for 77 consecutive years. He loved the sport, was a member of the CSIA and spent many years coaching young ski racers. He was President of the Canadian Ski Association (Ski Canada) during the 1988 Calgary Olympics, and a Technical Delegate of the Federation International de Ski officiating at many competitions throughout North America. He was a volunteer at the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics, and 1988 Nagano Olympics. In 1993, he was a recipient of the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of Canadian Federation for service to the Community. Jim and Margaret also loved to travel together, and they had visited over 80 countries. Jim had a special fondness for Thailand, but could be seen backpacking with silverback gorillas in Rwanda, photographing tortoises on the Galapagos Islands or heliskiing in the Bugaboos. Jim will be interred in the Berwick/Brown family plot in Mount Royal Cemetery in Montreal later this year. As per his wishes, there will be no service.
