James GARRITY Obituary

DR. JAMES GARRITY

The family of Dr. James
Garrity is heartbroken to
announce his passing on
December 15, 2017 at the
Royal Jubilee Hospital in
Victoria, BC, after a brief
illness. He leaves behind his
beloved wife of 62 years,
Kathleen Rosemary (nee
Thomson). Loving father of
Denis (Ping), Jimmy (Sheila),
Josie, Bernadette, Jackie,
Mary Kate and Mary Clare.
Dear brother-in-law of
Rosemary (the late Andy)
Piacentini and Eleanor (the
late Wilfried) Wolfle and the
late George and Netta
Thomson. Proud grandfather
of 14. Great-grandfather of 1.
Survived by many nieces and
nephews in the U.K.
   James was born in Hamilton,
Scotland on May 17, 1931, the
only child of Denis and
Catherine Garrity. He
attended St. Aloysius' College
in Glasgow. He graduated
from University College
Galway medical school in
1957. He married Kathleen
and they immigrated to
Canada in 1959 with the RCAF
where he was a Squadron
Leader/Medical Officer. After
an honorable release from the
RCAF in 1967, he opened his
successful family practice in
Willowdale where he worked
for 27 years.
   James was a devout Roman
Catholic and a founding
member of the Birthright
organization. In 1994, he
retired and eventually moved
to Victoria, BC. James was the
ultimate Renaissance man and
gentleman - always
impeccably dressed in suit
and tie, and a handy man
who could fix anything, as
well as carve a perfect turkey!
James was a loving father
who put his wife and children
above all else. His last few
years were spent caring for
his wife, Kathleen.
   Cremation took place
following a private service in
Victoria on December 19,
2017. A Memorial Mass will be
held on March 17, 2018 at
9:30 a.m. at St. Pascal Baylon
Church, 92 Steeles Avenue
West, Thornhill, Ontario,
Canada. Reception to follow.
