Dear Nancy and all the Grant family, my deepest condolences. Jim had a profound impact in all areas of his life. He has been a mentor, always provided wise advice and remains an inspiring figure for all those who had the good fortune to work with him.

Dear Nancy I am writing to send you and your family my condolences on the passing of Jim. Our lives were most intertwined during our days at McGill where we were in the same Psi Upsilon fraternity. This led us to join on several trips hither and yon but always a great deal of fun.On one trip we met with Jim´s uncle Don who was the senior executive of the New York Yankees and he gave us use of his box for that afternoons game. He also arranged for us to play at his home course on Long Island. These trips led to four of us going to tour Europe together. This included playing the famous Olde Course at St. Andrews. Jim´s game was up to both challenges, mine was not.
Subsequently our paths diverged as my wife and I moved to Toronto and then Winnipeg. On our return to Montreal we only met sporadically but always enjoyed the get together. In his life he achieved so much that he is a figure to be much emulated.
Should you plan a celebration of life Dr.Don Harterre , a joint friend from the European trip would like to participate as would I. Please look me up in Bromont, Quebec and let us know if there is a memorial service of any kind.

He hired me as a young corporate lawyer at Stikeman Elliott in 1970 and remained my friend and mentor throughout my 35-year career. His constant support and guidance (coupled with his great sense of humour) could not be overestimated. Sincères condoléances à Nancy et toute la famille.

My heartfelt condolences to you, Nancy and family. Jimmy was a great man and I am honoured to have worked with him for so many years. I will always remember the annual maple syrup delivery to your garage - which I think of every time I drive on Thornhill. He will never be forgotten. Fondly. Vincent

A giant tree in the forest has fallen. He led a remarkable life of service, family and law, and will not soon be forgotten. May his memory be a blessing, and may he rest in everlasting peace.
