James GRAY Obituary

JAMES DAVID GRAY Perpetual optimist, fun Dad, soccer aficionado, golf enthusiast, confident, hardworking gentleman, and a million other beautiful things, died of mesothelioma on April 18, 2021 following a life well-lived. Jim will be missed, remembered and revered by his wife Lisa. He put his whole heart into being a husband and father, a role much admired by the children that he and Lisa raised together; Elle, Hunter and Gavin. "Dad's Life Lessons" helped to shape their kindness, instill in them a respect for others, a love of sports, and the drive to "do the right thing". Jim also leaves children Jimmy D, Will, Adam, and Kate. Born in Markdale, Ontario, Jim was predeceased by his parents Dr. Goldie and Eileen Gray; his half siblings, Maggie and Alex; and sister-in-law Cheryl. He will be truly missed by his siblings: Christie (Australia); Barbara, Bill (Owen Sound); and Barry (France). Jim had an incredible ability to make and keep friends- a testament to his warm smile, approachability, and desire to hear everyone's story. He will be fondly remembered by a large and diverse group of extended family, friends, neighbours, and colleagues from around the globe. Jim still surrounds us. When we are inspired to act with kindness, when we lead with positivity, when we see that twinkle of grit and determination in his children's eyes, we know Jim is here. So, please raise a glass and shake some ice for him. Cremation has already taken place in Crawfordsville, Indiana. In keeping with Jim's wishes, friends and co-workers are invited to our home to celebrate his life on Wed, May 26/21, 6-8pm. A separate celebration will be held in Canada at a later date. I had the great pleasure of working with Jim at Canada Packers Ltd in Toronto between 1980 and 1983. What a thoroughly decent and fun loving person the likes of whom we only meet a few of in a lifetime. While saddened to read the news of his passing it is clear that little had changed over the years - RIP

I first met Jim at the Queen’s Squash Club in Collingwood Ontario about 25 years ago. He was a handsome, athletic, positive gentleman. He introduced me to Lisa on a couple of occasions when we were on the golf course....he couldn’t wipe the smile from his face. He has truly left far too soon. RIP Jim.

This is very sad news. I used to babysit Jim and his siblings. Jim was a prankster and loved to try to scare me. My condolences to his family.

I am so sorry to hear about Jim’s passing. Barb was a friend at Havergal and my sister, Laurie, and I had 3 brothers who attended SAC. Jim was a good guy back then so it is no surprise that he was so well loved.
My sympathies to the family,
Leslie Omstead
