James "Jim" Donald (Domenic) Jones, P.Eng. (1932 - 2025) passed peacefully, in his 94th year. Jim's long career as a civil engineer took him across the province of Ontario, inspecting docks, dams, piers, weirs, and all manner of marine structures from Coboconk to Combermere. Some of his proudest work included the design of the Guelph Lake Dam on Speed River, and working with northern Indigenous communities on water systems. He maintained an active mind, continuing his work as a consulting engineer into his 80s, working from his dining room table. When he finally did retire, he truly missed working with contractors, but his decorum did improve considerably. He filled his time with continuous reading, playing euchre with friends, cooking scrumptious meals, and going for neighbourhood walks. He always encouraged the passions of young people, and was particularly enthralled by creative pursuits like cooking, woodworking, and sculpting. Jim took joy in watching younger minds figure things out, and would happily provide guidance or listen to anyone's projects. He loved nature, was a long-time supporter of Ducks Unlimited Canada, and was most at home in the woods around his cabin north of Honey Harbour. He is lovingly remembered by his sons, Curt, Nicholas, and Craig; daughter, Jill; daughters-in-law, Ikumi and Clara; and grandchildren, Eric, Stephanie (Steve), Evan, Toa, and Hio. Survived by former spouses, Donna and Val. Predeceased by his beloved mother, Maud; and his sisters, Maggie and Doreen. Reunited with Rosemary, Chimo, Alton, and Bev. The family are grateful for the kindness and dedication of the staff at Union Villa Long-Term Care, supporting Jim in his last years. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 4th.
