James Alfred B. "Jim" LANGFORD

James LANGFORD Obituary

LANGFORD, James Alfred, 'Jim' B. Arch., FRAIC
Peacefully at home on February 14, 2005 at age 77. Beloved husband of AJ Oliver. Loving father to Lorie (Jeff Bustard), Bill (Karin), Janet, Leslie (Neil Bow) and Mary (Norm). Devoted grandfather of Jase, Tate, Sean, and Katie. Dear brother of Harry Langford (Muriel). Predeceased by his parents. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Jim graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Architecture (1951) which he completed while commuting to play football for the Calgary Stampeders. Jim began his architectural career in Calgary, then, in 1954, moved to Saskatchewan to begin a 37-year career of public service. His journey included Deputy Minister of Public Works for Saskatchewan (at age 28) and, in 1963, moving to Ottawa to become the federal government's Chief Architect. With the Department of Public Works, Jim was involved with construction and renovation of federal buildings from coast to coast. Jim graduated from the National Defence College in the class of '71. He was a dedicated supporter of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, including more than 35 years as a fellow and service as a director, chancellor of the College of Fellows and editorial board chair. In retirement he enjoyed skiing, golf, painting, photography and perfecting his wry sense of humour. We'll miss him. To celebrate Jim's life, friends are welcomed at McEvoy - Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Rd, Ottawa (613-737-7900) on Friday, February 18, 3-7 p.m. and at a memorial service Saturday, February 19 at 3 p.m., with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers the family appreciates donations to the Salvation Army or the Trans-Canada Trail. Condolences [email protected].

I was so sorry to hear of Mr.Langford passing. He always had so much patience, even with what seemed to be hundreds of noisy kids running around your house. I remember him fondly.

With deepest sympathies,

Suki Armstrong

Our sincere condolences to Jim's family on his passing. As a native of Winnipeg, I knew Jim as a young man, and we became acquainted again when he moved to Ottawa. He will be missed by all who knew him!

Dear Mrs Langford, Bill, Karin and the entire Langford family,

Bev, Jacob and I would like to extend our deepest sympathy to you for the death of your husband, father and grandfather. Although we did not have the pleasure to ever meet Mr. Langford, our lives have been touched by him and enriched through our friendship with Bill and Karin. I hope that you can find some small measure of comfort during this difficult time, by the love and affection of your family and friends.

Take good care and God Bless.
