On January 8, 2026, Jane died at home, with me at her side. Our family has always reflected on our good fortune, marking each big moment and small gathering alike with the statement "Aren't we lucky?" We are lucky to have had the joy of her being and her loving presence to guide and anchor us. Her spirit lives on in her husband, Mark Garscadden; son, Owen Garscadden, his wife, Lauren Mozer, and their daughters, Madeleine and Margot; the extended Garscadden and Mozer families; and a retinue of cherished friends who loved her and admired her intellect and rapier-sharp wit: gentle, piercing ... followed by "that" quizzical gaze. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 2-4 p.m. at Archive Studios (411 Richmond St. East, Suite 100).

Mark, please accept our condolences on the passing of Jane. She was an ever bright light and source of boundless energy among th crew manning the oars at native affairs. Her warmth and humor were infectious -- never discounting her quizzicle stare that prompted the rewriting of countless briefing notes. She was a gem and will be sorely missed.
