Jane GIBSON Obituary

JANE FRASER GIBSON (Née Cantley) April 4, 1930 - December 21, 2021 Jane Gibson died peacefully in the early morning hours of her final sleep in Hamilton General Hospital. She was not surrounded by family as her late husband, Colin Gibson and late son, also Colin Gibson were waiting in heaven to greet her. Her daughter Julie Gibson Firestone was by her side until she nodded off that evening and her cat, Glendale, waited at home. To say that Jane lived a full life is an understatement. She loved everyone and thrived on engaging with people. No one loved a prank better - April Fool's day was her favourite day of the year. An avid reader and news hound with a voracious interest in politics, she had both televisions on at full volume most of the time, one tuned to CBC, the other on CNN - much to the dismay of her neighbours in her condo. Her home was a revolving door of visitors who were always warmly greeted with the added caveat, 'DON'T LET THE CAT OUT!' A celebration of 91 years of a wonderful life is being planned for her birthday, April 4, 2022 when we can hopefully gather without restrictions. In lieu of flowers, please make a generous contribution to the Liberal Party of Canada. Arrangements entrusted to Dodsworth & Brown Funeral Home, Ancaster, (905) 648-3852. Please accept my sympathy on the recent death of your mother. Jane was a cheerful and gracious lady to meet. She reminded me of the `Energizer Bunny´ who always seemed so full of energy.
Memories will enrich future days for you.
Sincerely,
Lucy-Jane Hannaford

Oh dear! I am so sorry to hear this sad news. Jane was one of my most favourite people, so bubbly and hilarious and such an interesting person with whom to have a good old political discussion. She shall be sorely missed.

Jane was like a mum to me, but even more so, was a great friend. When she came by for drinks or dinner we would talk non- stop and there was still never enough time to cover all the topics we wanted to talk about. I loved the stories of her ancestors and her youth, and of course, political gossip. Jane and I were at One Duke for oysters with two young girls in their twenties. The server thought that this was a sweet little multi- generational family gathering. When the server asked about us, I exclaimed, that no, we were all just friends! Jane hooted with laughter. Another great memory that would send us into fits of laughter was our trip to see “Downton Alley” and the stuffed rats. I will miss Jane deeply for her exuberance, laughter, great conversation and friendship. She helped me through the terrible days after I became a widow. A chat with Jane would always make me feel much better. I knew from her example that It was possible to find light in the darkness. I will be forever grateful to Jane.

I remember Jane from when I was in Nursing school and In the young Liberals club. One election year the young Liberals were helping out at a candidate´s office, it was around Christmas time. Jane was all worried we would be hungry so she brought us in chocolates, tea, and clementines! After I finished Nursing School, Jane for years, tried to recruit me to come and be her Personal RN. At Many functions, from across the room when she saw me she would yell "Theirs my personal Nurse!"
I will miss you Jane. You were a one of a kind ,Wonderful women. Heaven has gained an Angel.
