JANE LOCKHART GLASSCO (NEE GORDON) Passed away peacefully at her home on April 28, 2010, surrounded by her family and friends. Jane lived many roles in life: daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sheep farmer, 'wild-flower child' and surrogate family to many, many friends. She embraced the world in many ways, from her early passion to be a doctor, to her co-founding Toronto's Tarragon Theatre, to her astounding efforts in journalism, filmmaking and community activism. Her evolution into an organic lamb farmer, environmentalist and activist/ philanthropist was a beautiful synergy of her passions. Throughout her life she was a mentor who inspired innovation & compassion, taking risks and showing respect. What she would most want to be remembered for is her love of family, her devotion to her friends, her deep love of the land and her commitment to protect it, her respect and admiration for aboriginal peoples and traditions, her optimism and determination that the world could be made a better place. Her children Dan, Briony and Rufus Glassco, and their spouses, Karen Hunter, Clive Walton and Dinora Glassco, and her grandchildren, Tyler, Max, Zoe, Kyra, Sebastian and Benjamin remember her with great affection and hold her close in their hearts. Her sister, Kyra Montagu and brother John Gordon, remember her with love and admiration. A private service of celebration is being held. In Lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Oak Ridges Moraine Land Trust, the ALS Society of Ontario. Alternately please consider donating to The Jane Glassco Northern Fellowship Program of the Walter and Duncan Gordon Foundation. This fellowship, in honour of Jane's work, love, and commitment to the North, will give young northeners skills to build their own futures.
