JANE HOGARTH Obituary

April 15, 1964 - September 30, 2024

How lucky we were to have Jane in our lives. How profoundly sad we are to announce her passing. Devoted, loving mother and a great friend to many, Jane was a magnet to anyone who entered her orbit.

Her children, Georgia, Renée and Henry, were fixed at the centre of her life. She loved them deeply, and parented them like a pro. She is greatly missed by her mom, Martha, brothers John (Susie) and Donald (Colleen), and nieces and nephews Lauren, Richard, Marshall and Evan. Long cuddles with her great niece Daphne, the newest addition to our family, were a great comfort in Jane's last weeks.

An almost 3-year-long battle with pancreatic cancer brought out the best in Jane's character. Her courage, grace, strength and humour were unfailing in the face of adversity. A pair of well-worn "%*#! Cancer" socks were her calling card. Even at the toughest times, she showered the people around her with love, kindness and generosity.

At the family cottage on Lake of Bays, Jane's favourite place, she ruled the roost. There, as elsewhere, she had a thirst for adventure and, well, misadventure. Running with the bulls in Pamplona. Hiking Kilimanjaro. Skiing in the Alps, Rockies and at Georgian Peaks. Feasts and wine with family and friends. Jane lived fully. A note left to her kids starts with "Don't have regrets."

A graduate of McMaster University, Jane went into industrial interior design. She was the lady in a hard hat staring down the men on their turf. "She who yells the loudest gets the trades on site!" was her working motto.

Deep gratitude to the doctors and staff at Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) for their kind, professional care through Jane's journey with cancer.

A funeral service will be held at Rosedale United Church, Friday, October 4, at 2 p.m., followed by a reception. The service can be viewed online at https://bit.ly/3BpjsS9.

Jane and I shared innumerable joyful hours together at either of our cottages through idyllic childhood summers. So many fond memories of Jane and her family, I am so thankful for that time spent together. It sounds like her magnetic personality and her keen sense of adventure increased throughout her (too short) lifetime. Deepest condolences to Jane's children, brothers, and whole family. May your many memories keep her alive in your hearts.

I met Jane through Anahita when they came to buy eggs. She was a founding "member" of that fun, connected north Toronto farmy community we became. Jane was sweet, funny and full of life. I was sorry to hear of her passing. Please accept my deepest condolences.

So sad to hear of the passing of a high school friend from Bethany who always lit up the room with her smile with Jimi Hendrix always playing in the background. Although we haven´t seen each other in decades, her contagious energy remains with me.

I can´t imagine how difficult it has been for Jane and all of you the last few weeks. Jane was a very unique person amongst unique family members. From her teenage days, she always had a place in my heart for her mischievous character and strength of will. Her memory will resonate always with those who were lucky enough to have crossed paths with her. Andrea and I send all of our love, courage and strength for you to lean on in the coming days. Big hugs.

Dearest Georgia, Renée and Henry - we all know your mom was an amazing person, a wonderful mother and a loyal friend. You three were the centre of her world. Please know that our family is thinking of your family and sending you much love. Please take care and know that we are carrying some of your grief so you don't have to shoulder it all by yourselves.

With much love,

I first met Jane when my son James started at SHS in grade 3. We were both mostly single parents and she really helped me get integrated into the school. She was so devoted to the well-being of her kids. Her son Henry: I coached with James on our hockey team. Jane made sure to introduce me to everyone at the school we had a great friendship outside of school, and always compared notes about our kids. I can´t express how sad I am that this wonderful kind caring women is no longer here and my condolences to her children and family.
