Jane MORTON Obituary

March 2, 1950 – June 13, 2025 We are devastated to announce the death of Jane Morton, on June 13, 2025, after a short illness. Jane was born in Belleville, ON, the middle child of Ralph and Shirley Morton (née McIntosh). She was raised in a close knit and loving family of many aunts and uncles, and formed long lasting relationships with her many cousins as well as childhood friends, which continued until her death. Upon completing her education at BCI, she moved to Toronto and enrolled in the School of Nursing at North York General Hospital (Seneca College). After graduation, she worked as a general nurse in both Ottawa and Toronto, but felt she wanted something different for her career. She enrolled in the OR nursing course at Saint Michael's Hospital, and after graduation, was offered a job at St. Mike's. She stayed for 43 years, in a variety of roles in the operating room and in orthopaedic research. She loved to travel and managed to visit six continents, enjoying the sights, sounds, and cuisine of every place she visited. After retirement, she took up her long-forgotten hobby of needlepointing, and produced many beautiful pieces for pillows and wall hangings for her home and the homes of her friends. Entertaining friends, especially at small dinner parties was a highlight, enjoying their company and the always stimulating conversation - she chose her guests with care. The family cottage near Maynooth was a favourite refuge for 50 years and allowed close family ties to be maintained. A voracious reader, the car would be piled high with her books at the start of each cottage season. She is survived by her husband, James Waddell; her brother, John Morton (Frances); her sister, Sheila; and a myriad of cousins and innumerable friends. Special thanks to Dr. Hu Ko and the staff of PGT 8 at St. Michael's Hospital, and Dr. Jonathan Ailon and the staff at Kensington Hospice. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a date to be announced.

I am deeply shocked and saddened by this unexpected news of the death of Jane, with whom I worked in the OR and knew at St Mikes for 40 years. There are many stories and laughs we shared. Living near Belleville in my retirement I often remember her as I shop or pass through. Those of us left behind will remember Jane's gentle ways and her beautiful blue eyes. Rest in Peace now dear Jane.
