Jane TAYLOR Obituary

Peacefully after a brief encounter with cancer. Beloved daughter, of the late Thomas Housson Sears and Anne Marcus Sears. Predeceased by her siblings, Mary Anne Thomas and William Housson Sears; and her cat, Max (aka Furnly). Loved beyond measure by daughters, Robyn Jane Cakebread (Edward Kraus) and Caroline Marcus Cakebread (James Mitchell). The very best Nan, of Miles, Isabelle, Henry and Juliet. Jane made friends wherever she went and her death is mourned by so many people who knew her over the years. She was a gentle force in the lives of many talented actors. She was a true ambassador for Toronto and loved living there. She was always up for a chat and a cocktail. Her humour and kindness will be sorely missed by friends and family. A funeral service is to be held at Grace Church-on-the-Hill, 300 Lonsdale Rd., Toronto, on Saturday, November 9, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Northumberland Hills Humane Society.

Dear Caroline and Robyn

I was so saddened to hear about the death of your wonderful mother. She absolutely loved and was proud of you both. And she adored your kids.

I know she didn´t want to leave the close community of 30 Glen Elm Ave but you made the right decision for her in moving her to Cobourg. I always intended to visit her there but it was during the pandemic and life got in the way.

Your Mom was one of the very few people I had contact with during the pandemic. I didn´t even see my own kids and grandkids for fear of getting Covid and giving it to my mother who was in long term care. Your Mom and I had great visits over wine. We even spent one early New Year´s Eve together.

I really missed her when she moved! It just wasn´t the same without her here.

I´m sure you are heartbroken. Please know that I am thinking of you.

Jane and I have been friends since the early 60´s. We were there for each other through bad times and good over the years. We travelled twice together, partied a lot in the early days, and had lots of fun. Although we didn´t see each other much after she moved to Cobourg we still talked a lot by phone. I will really miss her. A big hug to you Robyn and Caroline.

I was proud to be an honorary member of the 3rd floor Beachplace group. Jane had a delightful dry sense of humor and she never minced words. I´m so happy to have known her and dearly miss the ladies of that "club" who are no longer with us or no longer at Beachplace. We sure had some fun together... their memory lives on.

Jane is a patient of mine and a dear friend. We often chatted about pets and families. One day after her treatment, she suggested that we do lunch together. We went to first watch and found out we both loved shrimp and grits. We even started shrimp and grits hunting all over the restaurants in Sarasota! The following year first watch didn´t bring shrimp and grits back and we felt disappointed like kids didn´t get to have candies. We were not able to see each other for a while because of pandemic. After she finally returned to Sarasota, we did plan on going but it got canceled because she has to help a friend. And it became our last communication. A good life is built on small precious moments, Jane, I hope our small silly things brought joy to you. Every time I have shrimp and grits, the thought of you will be with me.

Aunt Jane was a gas. I remember one time when she visited us and she and my mom referred to themselves as "a couple classy broads" haha. We are all sorry for your loss, girls.

Jane lit up with her stories of her family. Jane knew how to love. I weep her loss.

I cherish memories of what we called our "Floor 3" group from Longboat which also included Rochelle, who is not shown in the group photo, and a few other honorary members. Jane always looked sharp, and she elevated and animated the conversation. Of all whom we have lost, their memories truly are blessings.

I loved Jane dearly. She, Linda, Rochelle and I were neighbors on Longboat for decades. We pulled each other up from some crushing situations. Jane was right there for each of us during darkest times with her precision grasp of people and situations, her honesty and "keep-a-go" attitude. She was a brilliant woman who was cultured and beautifully mannered. We loved talking books, architecture and art, and we enjoyed several symphony performances the last season we were together. We weren´t fussy critics at those times; what we lived for was to see and hear a tiny snippet of a percussionist pound her spread of drums as if she were the lead drummer in Coldplay. It was a fine concert based upon the boom quotient. Jane brought brightness, joy and warmth to our group, and she will be missed daily by many. I send my love and sympathy to all of you, and especially to those darling grandchildren upon whom she doted. All of us are also very grateful for the outstanding care you saw that she received, Caroline and Robyn. What fine daughters you were to her. -Rebecca

We shared so many great times with Jane over the years in Toronto, Longboat Key and Lake of Bays under our nicknames "Honey" and "Fuss." Every occasion was replete with laughs and the odd cocktail. Unfortunately, we didn't see her as much when she moved to Cobourg, but kept in touch via phone calls. We'll miss her greatly and are eternally grateful that we got to have one last visit just days before she passed away. Sending lots of love to Robyn and Caroline and their families.
