JANET DRYDEN Obituary

(October 8, 1935 - July 14, 2025) Janet Blanche Dryden (née Cornwall) passed away peacefully, on Monday, July 14, 2025, in her 90th year at Campbell House Hospice in Collingwood. Cherished daughter of the late Harry and Helen Cornwall. Predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Ernie Dryden; her brother, John Cornwall; and her sister, Joan Wannell. Janet will be lovingly remembered by her children, Stephen (Kathleen), John, Heather (Peter), and Sharon (Michael); and her granddaughters, Charlotte, Kaitlin, Caroline, Emily, Amelia, Zoe, and Esme. Aunt Janet will also be fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, and their families. Janet worked as a curator at Spruce Lane Farmhouse at Bronte Creek Provincial Park in Oakville. She flourished in this role, spending her days in the Victorian era that she was so passionate about. Janet juggled a very busy household as well as working full-time, yet always prioritized hosting family and friends. Janet and Ernie hosted bridge nights, Sunday dinners, and Christmas dinners with extended family for many years at their home in Burlington. Janet and Ernie built a beautiful home in Horseshoe Valley and retired there in 1989. The influence of Janet's time at Spruce Lane could be seen throughout their home. There was a wood stove, spinning wheels, along with the addition of several large looms. Countless one-of-a-kind blankets were created; from baby blankets and throws to bedspreads, no challenge was too great. All while finding time to ski, golf, and travel with Ernie and their friends. Janet ultimately settled in Collingwood. Always inquisitive about her community, Janet sought out new people and experiences despite her declining health. Campbell House provided exemplary care for Janet. The busy bird feeder at Janet's hospice window brought her happiness in her final days. She often asked for the window to be left open so she could listen to the birds and take in the shenanigans unfolding at the feeder. The family is very grateful that Janet was able to spend her last days at Campbell House. Janet's family wishes to thank Dr. Etemadi, Dr. Alyssa Boyd, Dr. Langford, Nurse Hillary, and the staff at Campbell House. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Georgian Triangle Hospice Foundation. There will be a celebration of life for Janet in the fall. Details will be posted at a later date at www.thomasfuneralhome.ca.
