JANET MUIRHEAD Obituary

(December 22, 1960 – November 12, 2025) Janet Mary Muirhead passed away peacefully, on November 12th, at Kensington Hospice after a battle with endocrine cancer. Beloved partner of Neil McLean for 40 years; loving mother of Jack and Alexandra (predeceased); and a devoted sister to Kathleen (Malcom) and to brothers, William and Robert. Janet was born in Hamilton the first of the Muirhead's to be born in Canada. Growing up, she was blessed with a loving family and a dedicated group of friends – the Hamilton Mountain Girls – whose close bonds have endured for decades. Janet had a gift for creating friendships that saw her also develop strong and lasting relationships and networks of close friends in Toronto, at the beloved Kennisis Lake cottage, and many others across the country and around the world. An honours degree in Biology at the University of Guelph and an MBA at the University of Toronto helped prepare Janet for a successful career in the health care industry where she nurtured, managed, and sustained strong loyalties with both colleagues and clients. She was known for fostering a supportive and mentoring environment and on retiring left behind an enduring workplace legacy. Janet was a fearless and adventurous person who didn't shirk from personal or professional challenges as diverse as confronting a rhinoceros in the Terai jungle or maintaining her balance while navigating rough seas off the coast of Somalia. In her many travels, notably with husband Neil, she visited every continent (well maybe not Antarctica) and made friends in each of them. Fond memories of ski vacations, the sunny south, west coast adventures, and everything that Toronto had to offer filled her with happiness. She was an avid reader, an esteemed chef, and an accomplished swimmer who enjoyed cold Canadian waters. One of her most cherished places was the Kennisis Lake cottage where she and Neil, Jack and Alex - along with friends and family - gathered over the years to fill the place with good cheer, laughter and love. Most of all, Janet was known for her selfless love and compassion. She excelled at bringing family and friends together and making those around her feel valued. She will be greatly missed. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Artscape Wychwood Barns, 76 Wychwood Ave., Toronto. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Princess Margaret Hospital would be greatly appreciated.

I was very saddened to hear of Janet´s passing. I hired Janet as a freshly minted MBA graduate to a Product Management position at Baxter Corporation. She was undoubtedly one of the best hiring decisions I made. She was inquisitive, bright and unafraid to question and offer suggestions. Moreover Janet was very well liked and respected by her colleagues. I offer my sincere condolences to her family and friends.

There are no words to express the influence Janet had on us Baxter Babes. Janet navigated the business world with precision skill and adapted to any situation. She was highly regarded and everyone wanted to have Janet in their corner. She became a dear friend to me and I will cherish my memories of her and her love of life and her family.
