(October 10, 1949 – July 25, 2025) It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Jason Paikowsky after a hard-fought battle with leukemia. Jason passed away on July 25th, from complications following a stem cell transplant in December 2024. Our hopes that a stem cell transplant would afford him a few more years were, sadly, not to be. He took great delight in his son, Sam (Rachel Fraser); daughter, Jenna (Allen Pengelly); and grandchildren, Amelia (Paikowsky), Sarah and Natasha (Pengelly). Jason is also survived by his only sibling, Sandra Paikowsky of Montreal. His wife of 37 years, Barbara Sauerteig, will miss him every single day. Jason was deeply loved by, and deeply in love with Barbara – he said he had to pinch himself every day to believe his luck that he was married to her. Jason enjoyed cooking, coffee roasting, craft beer, travelling and spending time with his family and friends. He loved dancing all night at New Year's Eve parties, sampling wine in Italy, France and Spain, singing along at friends' music parties and splashing in the ocean with his kids and grandkids. He took up golf and became an avid soccer fan when his son played both sports as a teenager. Jason spent over 30 years in the TV commercial production industry. Even in retirement, he was occasionally called on to assist with bidding commercials. He never lost his touch; he was a true professional. His family and friends describe him as funny, brilliant, analytical and fun to be around. He had strong political views and never held back from expressing them! The family is grateful to the doctors, nurse practitioners and nurses for the exceptional and compassionate care he received during treatment, transplant and post-transplant. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. For those who wish, donations can be made to the Juravinski Cancer Centre or the Juravinski Hospital through Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation (
