Jean ALEXANDER Obituary

In her 95th year of an exceptional life, our Mum died peacefully at Kingston General Hospital, on Sunday, March 3, 2024, surrounded by her children and the love of her family. Jean was predeceased by her loving husband, Dr. David Alexander, and she will be forever loved and missed by her children, Sheila Alexander (Brian MacKenzie), Elizabeth Suriyuth (Matt Suriyuth), Ian Alexander (Andrea Murphy), and Bruce Alexander (Sylvie Turnbull). She was a very proud and loving Nana to her nine grandchildren, Iain, Colleen, and Michael MacKenzie, Alec and Andrew Suriyuth, Jenna Murphy and Spens Alexander, and Jeremie and Charlotte Alexander, who will always remember Nana's stories of her extraordinary life and adventures, as well as the many family gatherings at her home. She will be greatly missed by her brother, Bruce Hutchinson (Mary), and her sister, Alison Olsson (late Guy), as well as her extended family and friends in Canada, Australia, and throughout the world. Jean was predeceased by her brothers, Gordon and Peter. Jean frequently spoke of her gratitude for a wonderful life with her family and friends. She was a forward-thinking, caring and generous person, with a great sense of humour and was happiest doing things for others, gathering many lifelong friends along the way. She had a fulfilling career in medicine as a Pediatrician and educator who strongly advocated for children with complex needs and their families, and she was instrumental in establishing the Child Development Centre (now KidsInclusive) at Hotel Dieu Hospital. Throughout her life, Jean impacted many people's lives and truly made a difference. We are very grateful for the support of her dear friends and the compassionate and dignified care that she received from St. Lawrence Place Retirement Home, the Queen's Family Health Team, the Palliative Care Team, the Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario, and Kingston General Hospital. Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life for Jean will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers, and in remembrance of Jean, charitable donations may be made in her name to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation to KidsInclusive, to continue to support children and their families (UHKF, 55 Rideau Street, Suite 4, Kingston, Ontario, K7K 2Z8, uhkf.ca) Sharing Memories online condolences may be made at www.reidfuneralhome.com.
